    Hi,

Im new (althoughIve posted today already). Brief synopsis:- Ive had DES since September 2014 and Ive been managing till now but I do a lot of typing a day and am at the computer for 7 hours a day. I use eyedrops every hour and use a heat mask twice a day and theres a little bit of tears when I do thje lid massage I still get stinging a lot during the day when Im at work. Im thinking of dropping my hours at work to cope with it. I was told by my eye consultant to concentrate on filing and other duties that dont involve a lot of PC work but this isnt really an option where I work. I dont know where to turn now and I know its the typing thats making my eyes worse.

Can anyone make any suggestions based on your experiences?

    Hi,

I'm really sorry to hear what you've been recently going through. Can I ask when you use a heated compress do you use a heated flannel or a proper mask? I use a Blephamask (horrible name but that's the brand!) that keeps in the heat for longer. I was advised by my opthmologist to use it for ten solid minutes at a time, any less won't be effective.

I see you've written about using omega 3 & seabuckthorne oil, it does take a few months to work but I would recommend it but it is pricey. I just take omega 3 now. Try helping yourself internally by drinking lots of water too.

When positioning yourself at a computer try to be looking down at the screen rather than up at it. Uses less eye surface! More tips here http://www.allaboutvision.com/cvs/irritated.htm

Have you got an official diagnosis of what the matter is from your opthmologist? (Apologies if you've already posted this in a previous post).

https://justgetflux.com/ Maybe you should try this. It is really good for eyes if you have to be a lot of time in computer.

Have you tried moisture chamber goggles? I wouldnt be able to do my job without them. Having a humidifier in front of me at work also helps, offices tend to be very dry. If you have MGD you can try doing blinking exercises, although it will take months to notice the effect from this. Also did your doctor tell you to take the eye drops that often? Every doctor I've seen including a specialist have said about every 3 to 4 hours.

          Hi ClaireW,

I was diagnosed by an ophthalmologist at my local eye hospital. I use a heated mask. Ive looked into blephamasks but I cant afford to buy one at the moment.

          Hi MGD30,

Ive ordered some moisture chamber goggles. The zienna 7 eye ones but I work in a large open plan office and I'm scared about what people will think. Its silly really. Im going to look into getting a humidifier but don't know which one to get. Id prefer a mini one. My eyes are so dry and start stinging after about 20 minutes of PC work. My doctor didnt say to take them that often but I feel I need to put them in that often when Im in work.

I was uncomfortable about wearing the glasses at first too. I would only wear them after I got home from work, but it wouldnt make much of a difference because my eyes were too irritated by then. I would then wear them at my cubicle but take them off if I needed to get up. Now I just wear them all the time. I guess you just get used to it. My eyes were so bad that I had no choice.

Here is the humidifier I use. Its a bit expensive but its perfect for an office because its so small. The fist one I broke because I was using tap water, I now I use distilled and have had it for almost a year.

Thanks for the link. I need to bite the bullet and just put the glasses on. Its getting to the point where I need to wear them.
