Hi, my name's Cory. I'm a 28-year-old, otherwise healthy male. For the last two years I have been suffering from extreme eye fatigue. It doesn't happen all the time. In fact, I'll go for weeks with no trouble, then out of nowhere it'll hit me and last for days, weeks and sometimes months. It is debilitating, as I feel I can accomplish absolutely nothing when it occurs.
I don't spend large amounts of time staring at computer screens or phones. My eyes are not sore, itchy, red or puffy. Though they will sometimes water profusely upon waking up.
The feeling can only be described as an overwhelming desire to close or tightly/forcibly squint my eyes. They just feel SO, SO, SO tired, although, my body is not tired at all. As soon as my eyes are closed, I feel relief and everything feels normal, until I open them again.
I've been to two eye doctors who say my eyes look completely fine, albeit maybe a little dry. They recommended that I start using Retaine MGD medicated eye drops that don't seem to help, neither does allergy medication. I get 8-10 hours of sleep a night, and sometimes, as soon as I open my eyes in the morning, it starts and will last all day. The only variable I've found is that it feels better when I'm in the shower, or outside, though it's not always a huge change.
I'm desperate to find an answer, as I feel this is starting to rule my life, and it scares me for my ability to have a normal life going forward. I would love to talk with others who may be going through the same thing as me and can carry a bit more insight. Thank you!
