  • iMac 27" screens

Any Mac users out there have issues using the 27inch iMac?

I am having problems with the heat from the screen sometimes really bothering my eyes. I don't know if it's just because it's getting older... seems like I don't remember it heating up this much in the first year or two. I really have to use a large screen because of my vision (actually I have another flatscreen attached to it so I can have lots of windows open at the same time). But it's getting to the point where I need to make a change. =

My iMac is older and will only take one peripheral screen so I am trying to figure out what to do. Move back to Windows... get a smaller iMac that will take two peripherals... or...? Appreciate any thoughts

You might want to try a Mac Mini. That way you can stick with OS (which is much better than windows in my opinion) but use your own external monitor.

It's a bit of a downgrade power wise, so this might not work for the type of work you do.

      Hi Rebecca

I have the same computer, an older 27 inch iMac. However, I haven't had the same heat problem with it.

I retired last year and now the iMac is set up in our home office. The problem I now have with it is that it is way too large. I had a large desk at my work and the size of the screen was great on that large desk. But at home, it is an awkward size.

My husband has the iMac that is one size smaller and it is much easier for me to use. Both are older and we haven't upgraded to Mavericks because of how old they are.

I would never use a PC but that is a just a personal preference. Everyone has their own personal preference in the Mac vs PC flame wars. :-)

I would never purchase another 27 inch screen. The slightly smaller size is much easier on my eyes, for some unknown reason. It doesn't make sense, but there you go.

So I would vote for the slightly smaller screen and extra peripherals, plus the ability to use the more recent OSX.

      Just my opinion.

        Rebecca,
We had an older iMac that started generating intense heat. Went to Apple and they said it was about to die. Bought new one and no heat.
