Anyone familiar with conjunctival chalasis preventing the spread of oil secreted from mgd? All my tests are pretty normal and this has been presented to me as the possible reason my eyes are so dry.

Conjunctival chalasis is a loosening of the conjunctiva, the clear covering over the eye. It has to be smooth for the eye to function properly. If it is loose, there is trauma to the eye every time you blink. I had it in both eyes. Many dry eye patients have it. I had surgery with Amniotic membrane transplantation to have it removed.

I understand...did it help you? I have 2 different opinions. My corneal specialist says if it was a problem for me my eyes would be excessively tearing which they're not. Another opinion says that the folds are preventing the oils from the mgd's from spreading properly. Why did you have the procedure done?

My eyes were not excessively tearing. They were red, and constantly inflamed. My eyelids became inflamed too. Every time I blinked I was putting trauma on my eyes. I also had severe MGD - only 3-5 working glands per lid. I had meibomian gland probing to open up the glands to get the oil to flow, and eye resurfacing to smooth out the surface to get rid of the inflammation. Quite frankly, the surgery and the probing saved my life. I wrote a detail description on a post in 2011.
