UK Dry Eye specialist reccomendations

Hello,
I'm looking for best best dry eye specialist to see in the UK, any recommendations welcome. Currently based in London and have seen several self proclaimed 'world-renowned' dry eye ophthalmologists that specialist in dry eye including moorfields, harley st etc who have all been useless.

Have you tried the Dry Eye Centre? They are very knowledgeable there.

I actually went there today to request an appointment but next available is in a few months.. Also I've had a look on their site an every had diagnostic test and treatment listed. I have heard they're good though

I've seen Mr.Samer Hamada. Not very happy with him. So want to see someone else.
Also, I've heard about Ms. Valerie Saw, and Professor O'Brart(from this site).

I've been to see loads of 'top' people in London - there is no best specialist as in almost all places/people will offer plugs, doxy, IPL, Ikervis, steroids, azyter, lipiflow ect. O'Brart will do probing if your glands are super blocked. It's not that these people aren't good, its just that there is no treatment for dry eye that works reliably. I'd start looking at EPP scleral lenses if the problem is so bad you can't work.

I tend to agree. Treatments/medications are limited so it’s not really the doctors’ fault plus there isn’t a cure all. Once you’ve exhausted all avenues the only option left is scleral lenses unless you are prepared to go overseas to get medication not available in the UK but even then you are taking a gamble as they might not work.

There is only one place in the country which does EPP scleral lenses and that is TKS Optometrists in Northampton. With EPP technology you will get perfectly fitting lenses. The down side is that they cost more than regular sclerals, at £3k a pair.

Yes, that's it. My main advice for UK sclerals is avoid Ken Pullen - personal opinion but his huge thick lenses, which bubbled 24/7 for me, are out of the dark age and the technology has moved on a lot without him.

As mentioned by others dry eye is very complex with many root causes.

For me I have MGD I have lost a fair amount of gland loss. Then some genius thought I was ok too have LASIK, so now my tear volume is low.

I've visited 6 or 7 different docs and consultants in the uk and Spain. Each time I learn more about my condition and treatments.

I've tried plugs, ikervis, NGF drops and now prp drops. I've also had lippiflow and probing.

I've now got a decent quality tear film despite the gland loss but still struggling with the lack of tears.


Therefore I've started looking at the scleral lenses route, visting the above mentioned place in Northampton on the 12th April.

The lesson is be your own health advocate learn all you can and fughf for treatment.

Oh and the nhs is crap with dry eye.

SirDryEye May I ask what kind of diagnostic does Dr. Wilson provide related to dry eyes? And what kind of treatment? Also did she advice indoor treatment (IPL etc). Was she helpful? I'm looking for a specialist now. Considering her as well.
