Can you wear contact lenses

Hi I was wondering if it's possible to use contact lenses when you have dry eye? I started trying 2 different brands and they both caused irritation and then I was told there would be no contact lenses suitable as I probably have dry eye syndrome. My symptoms are screen-induced and I have so many regrets using so much technology when I was younger. I wish I had known about this sooner as it's ruined my life a lot and it pretty much developed when I was only 21.

I really don't want to wear glasses I don't like how I look in them. Has anyone tried any brands or strategies that have allowed them to use contact lenses? Thank you!

You could go for a consult to see if you are a candidate for scleral lenses, which have been used increasingly to treat dry eye symptoms. Not everyone can tolerate them, but if you can, it could be similar to wearing contact lenses while at the same time providing some relief to your dry eye symptoms. I cannot wear regular contacts anymore, but am able to wear sclerals. There are several different brands, but these PROSE sclerals have a good description of the lenses in general and how it can help dry eye patients:

If you do decide to go for a scleral consult, I would recommend going to a practitioner who specializes in fitting sclerals, as that can be key to your best chances of being able to wear sclerals. I’m very happy with my PROSE fitter, and my specialists says they all go through a rigorous training process. Also what’s nice about the PROSE clinics is they process all your insurance paperwork for you and know the proper justification needed, if you are indeed a candidate. PROSE sclerals do end up costing more than most other sclerals (several thousand dollars), but if you have good medical insurance it can be a lot less out-of-pocket for you. For example, I only paid a few hundred dollars for mines after insurance.

However, continue to look into addressing your underlying condition so it does not get worse, since sclerals mainly address only the symptoms. At one point when my eyes were bone dry, I could not even wear sclerals for a few years.

Missberri I've got moderate MGD and was recommended simplifyes. It's a soft daily that's available via prescription only. They aren't available on sites like 1800 Contacts. Their claim to fame is theyre the lightest, most breathable contacts out there. The fact is, all soft contacts will only worsen symptoms. The use of them is counter to what eyes need to stay moist. I can use them for a couple of hours, mainly to work out when glasses aren't feasible. You could give them a shot by talking to your ophthalmologist. My hunch is they're only available in the US.
