  • Suffered a serious eye infection after a Superficial Keretectomy.. how to recover?

42 yo male in U.S. I had a medical emergency with an eye infection after a Superficial Keretectomy. A little over a week ago, I had a Superficial Keretectomy performed on my eye to help solve my problems with Recurrent Cornea Erosion over the past few years.
Two days after the procedure, a severe bacterial infection developed. The doctor took a culture, and found it is a bacterial infection that was resistant to the antibiotic drop that I was prescribed after the procedure.

In the last six days, I have gone through the most severe pain of my entire life from the infection. I have lost all vision in the affected eye. Except, I can see either blobs or light or darkness (depending on if there are physical lights on or not in the building or outside).

I just want to source ideas from different medical people or patients from different places. Sometimes the methods in the U.S that are followed by doctors are not "outside-of-the-box." I wanted to ask for other ideas, feedback, suggestions of things I could do to try to save my eye and vision.

After a 6 day course of:
    Tobramycin 14 MG/ML
    and
    Vancomcyin 25 MG/ML

The doctor said the infection was only in the cornea. The doctor thinks we now have the infection "under control." It's not completely eliminated yet but it's under control. That's probably why I have the energy and ability to write a post like this which I would not have had the ability to do anytime prior in the last week. I was just helpless in bed in 10/10+ pain.

The doctor says that the cornea is likely to have permanent damage, possibly permanent vision loss, and lots of scarring. The doctor is saying that I will likely need a cornea transplant in the future as a result of the damage from the infection from the Superficial Keretectomy.

Right now I am just focused on anything I can do right now that could possibly help aid the recovery of the cornea, to get back some vision, and to help with inflammation. I already have a lot of pain medications, so I am not concerned about the pain. Right now I am really concerned and asking for ideas, feedback, suggestions on what I could do or take to help with the recovery of my cornea, help to gain back some vision, and help with inflammation.

In terms of pharmaceuticals prescribed right now:
the 2 antibiotic drops mentioned.. it started every hour (including while sleeping) then every 2 hours.. now it's been moved to every 3 hours
Prednisolone anti-inflammatory steroid eye drop 2x day, 1 drop
Atopine to dilate the eye and to help a little with pain 2x day, 1 drop

I'd love any other pharmaceutical or non-pharmaceutical suggestions that I could bring up to the doctor, or any nutritional suggestions that I could begin right now to aid a recovery.

Please feel free to pass this on to any eye doctor or any doctor or nutritionist, etc. you know who may be able to give some ideas or valuable feedback. I'm just trying to save my eye and vision right now and trying to see what ideas are out there.. either common or uncommon.

    thank you
