  • warm compress and eyelid massage for meibomian gland dysfunction safety

    Hi everyone

I have mgd but i am worried that the heat from my eyebag could melt my vitreous creating more floaters ?

I have naturally thin corneas and i am worried expressing the oil out with my fingertips could cause corneal injury / more astigmatism.

I know i sound silly but these concerns are greatly troubling me.

Off to see a retinal specialist next week.

    Hi and welcome!

I think to get the best reassurance, you should get your eye doctor (or a tech) to weigh in with specific instructions for both heat and lid expression. I definitely wouldn't be attempting expression without some instructions (ideally, demonstration in office) so you feel confident that what you're doing is safe. If you still feel uncomfortable it, they should work with you to find a method that is safe and comfortable for you.

For heat, also, the vitreous concern sounds far-fetched, but if it's a worry for you, the retina doc next week should definitely be able to lay that one to rest for you Never heard of such a concern personally
