  • Hi, still new, always learning.

Woke up this morning and felt the erosion waiting to happen. Fortunately I managed to open my eye without tearing and I went straight for the Viscotears before I hit the shower this morning.
I just couldn't keep the lubricant in last night.
Fingers crossed tonight will be better as I've got a heavy work day tomorrow.

    • Hello Friends

I just thought I'd say Hello to all of you and let you know that my eyes are still the same. Dry as bones and the mucus strings are at their worst it seems Right now I am pretty sick with the flu, found out I most likely will have to get a hysterectomy, which I am relieved, having two periods and cramps every day isn't fun, not to mention it's causing my back pain. Hope ya'll have a Happy Halloween, I'll be in bed. God Bless D

      • Thanks for checking in, Delilah. Sorry to hear your eyes are still dry and mucous strings as usual!

My niece has similar problems as yours---has been in for surgery several times--but still has lots of pain. I hope you can get things more stable soon.

        (((hugs)))

        Keep in touch.

        • Hi Delilah
You have been with us for a long time and I am so sorry you still have those awful strings and are so dry. Do try everything you can think of before having a hysterectomy.

I had one on 25 August but it has sure knocked me out of circulation for a while - it is really tough on the system. It can take a long while to get over. I was in pain beforehand (bit different to you) and really desperate for the op which went well - it is the recovery time. But a lot of people told me that they are now really happy they have had the op.

It is a bit like dry eyes from Lasik - you never hear about those that have had a bad time until after you've had the op. One thing though - you are a lot younger than I am and you have a lot of staying power to get through all you have!
Hope you get over the flu quick! Take care. (((((Hugs from me too)))))))

          • Thanks Friends!

It's so nice to hear back from all of you and I hope that all of you are doing your best trying to manage your eye trouble and other health troubles. Dotanne I was wondering why it's so painful having a hysterectomy? Im a bit afraid. I had a tubal ligation done and that was extremely painful, is it just abdominal pain that doesn't go away?

Did you have a vaginal hysterectomy? I have this disease called Adneomiosis and an enlarged tipped uterus that has been giving me a lot of trouble and pain but I am a bit afraid now to have it done, how long does it take to recover? Delilah

              Delilah,

Did you ever try these for your mucous strings? I read something about it and posted here. I was wondering if they helped you.

              Take Care,

              • Hi Delilah
I'm not at a good stage to ask about hysterctomies as even though I am 10 weeks post op there is no way I could go back to work for a full day. Here is a good site to go to www.hysterectomy-association.org.uk

I shouldn't compare it to Lasik but you need to do your research. Some people fly through and others have problems. My operation went very well and was nothing to be afraid of but I now have what they say is nerve pain (from where they cut the nerves) and have been put on Amitrip to settle the damaged nerves. This nerve pain is also affecting my right leg (like sciatica). I just seem to be the type with nerves that don't like being cut!!!

Sounds like Lasik doesn't it! My eyes survived quite well but the anaesthetic can make the eyes drier for up to 3 months as it gets out of your system. An awful lot depends on what you have done. My op was vaginal which was a big advantage recovery wise. There are a lot of internal stitches so you have to be very careful for at least 6 weeks and the Dr told me the scars(internal ones she means) take up to 6 months to heal totally.

One is not totally right for about 11 months. Being younger would be a big help for you. Also being really fit and slim is an advantage. I was in pain before the op so it was really necessary. Its a bit like Lasik dry eyes - I have to tell myself every day "It will get better!!"

I had a prolapse with tipped uterus. It sounds as though you are in quite a bit of strife so I wish you all the best. That hysterectomy site gives lots of wonderful advice and you can join a forum before your op. I am in the 'August Orchids' group - we all had our ops in that month. We give each other lots of support! Some are back at work and doing all sorts and some of us a dragging the chain a bit! None of us regret having the operation!

                Take care (((((((((((hugs for Delilah)))))))))))))))

                • Thank-you Dot

Your information really helped me and I've been researching and I am worried about everything that can go wrong, I am so sorry your in so much pain and going through so much. I am going to wait it out for as long as I can, my periods are extremely heavy and extremely painful and I have cramps all the time even when I am not on my period.

I've never had Lasik surgery but I know it's a pain Again Thank-you for all your information and I wish you the best of luck. Hugs for you! Calli I tried the Acetylcysteine drops, they dried my eyes out even more! The compound fish oil eye drops helped for a couple of weeks then the stupid strings came back and my eyes are even more dry with winter here. I just have given up, I use Muro 128 eye drops for corneal edema, those help with the strings a bit and preservative free eye drops, been doing that for years now.

I've become use to it but there are days where I just want to hide in the dark, how are things with you? Your friend Delilah

                  • Hi Delilah!
I always love to see you post and update here. Sorry you have those strings yet and I can imagine what it would be like, but I don't have them. It's so odd that after Lasik, I never, never have any mucous in my eyes.. It's like everything dried up permanently. I have read about a couple of others like this (no mucous) on the boards.

I hope you have a nice "fall" as we are having in the Midwest. Lovely day here, 70 degrees. I hear snow is in the forecast, though. Lucy

                    • Hi Delilah
I feel so much for you with your period pain and cramps - it must be awful and with mucus strings in your eyes as well.
I do hope you have a good Dr for your pain problems. I am now getting relief as the Amitrip seems to have kicked in and I am functioning a lot better.
The main thing if you get a hysterectomy is to be well researched so you know what to expect. You could be one of the majority that fly through the operation. It is a pity the Dr can't help you more. I am glad you keep us up to date - keep us in touch. You are a real battler!
Lucy's weather sounds nice - good weather helps one keep 'a smile on the dial!'

                      • Hey, Delilah

I figured you had already tried those drops---sorry to hear they didn't help.

I'm doing much better now for the last 8 months. I got on thyroid meds and plaquenil (for the Sjogren's). After I quit wearing contacts my eyes got better. I tried plugs, but they made my eyes worse. I'm using FreshKote drops and Genteal Gel, lid massage, and TranquilEyes. So I'm using "everything," and little by little I am figuring this thing out. My eyes are still extremely dry, but they only feel bad if the weather's dry, or if I stay out late, get stressed out (or go to places with air pollution/irritants).

It's a delicate balance, though, and I stay at home more than I'd like, just so I don't have to deal with my eyes flaring up.

I really don't need to be visiting here at Dry Eye Talk all that much, but I keep coming back because of my "friends" here.

Hope you get to feel better soon.

                        C

                          • Just feel like sharing a bit tonight......so the pretty good news is that I've only used 2 drops today and it's 10:00 pm pacific time. I also actually think that the cold weather feels better outside/ but NOT inside that's for sure.

I'm on Azasite right now for a 4-week course....I guess it's hard to tell what's going on there. I guess I won't know until my doc checks my glands next time around. Anyways - my eyes feeling better sure does lift my spirits.

Have a great Thanksgiving everyone -- I am so grateful for the people here -- in fact I get to see my dry eye buddy on Friday for some real world fun and support!
