I have had a plug in my right eye for 5 years now. It's the umbrella type that you can see. My eye. Doctor is advising permanent cautery in this eye. Has anyone had plugs longer then this?

I have had plugs in for many years. I wish I could still keep them that long. But every time I lost one my Dr put in a bigger one. This became a vicious cycle to the point they don't stay in place anymore because everything is stretched out.
I would ask him why he would want to take it out if it's not causing you any problems? Cautery is usually permanent. Why not just leave it alone? Could be some new treatment might give you more tears. With cautery you may not be able to reverse it.
