  • Optic Nerve query

I just got a report back on my last visit to the opth. Under the assessment he has written 'Both optic nerves are 5/10ths cupped with slightly narrowed rims inferiorly.'
Can anyone explain what that means?
This guy is really good in that he sends a copy of his report to the patient as well as their GP. He is also trying to find out as much as possible about dry eye. Hope he comes up with something for this awful inflamation. Says my corneas are OK.

Both people with and without optic nerve damage have optic nerve cupping, although those with glaucoma tend to have a greater cup-to-disc ratio.
