  • ACE inhibitors

Has anyoned had experience with using ACE inhibitors? It seems like this may be a new DES development. I'm sure it's been talked about on the BB before and I've missed it, but any update would be appreciated.

    Dry Eye Syndrome (1:01)
Many people around the world suffer from dry eye syndrome. Lack of tears, the natural fluid of the eye, causes this condition. Older people are most likely to develop it.

Dry eye syndrome makes your eyes hurt, itch and feel tired. The condition can damage the surface of your eyes if it is not treated. The syndrome does not cause people to lose their sight. But it can make daily life unpleasant.

Over the years, not much research has been done on dry eye syndrome. But a recent study shows that drugs called ACE inhibitors may prevent the disorder. Doctors usually order these drugs for people to treat high blood pressure.

Try this link... but I always heard the opposite about this type of medication and actually they are talking about prevention not excatly treating DE with ACE.
Anyone else has heard about this?

    Take care

Thanks Kakinda. Good link. I thought this was a long shot, but worth noting.

        Hypertension meds

Some kinds of hypertension meds are terrible for DES; for a while I was on a drug called Procardia that aggravated my eyes very much. It is interesting to read that some classes of drugs might not be so bad (although as you point out, that article was about prevention, not treatment.)
