I chuckle as I write this because I am not sure if this even applies to you guys up north and out west. Do you guys have chicken houses? I probably could google to find out, but I am sure someone will let me know 
I went to visit a friend at their chicken house, they were in the front gathering eggs. I did not go into the part where the chickens are. When I walked in, the ammonia about knocked me down. I stayed for a little while, and the whole time my eyes were burning. When I got home that night, my eyes felt like I had poured acid in them. I had to lay down and put a warm compress on my eyes. They were ok the next day, but I was in bad shape the night before. I just wanted to let ya'll know that ammonia is bad bad bad for dry eye.
