  • Gross Question--not really--but

[SIZE=2]This is not really gross, and I'll word it carefully. Someone mentioned having mucous in their eyes in another post. I read about this as people post on message boards, usually about dry eyes.

I can honestly say that in the five and one-half years since my LASIK that I've never had ANY mucous in either eye. People normally from time to time, have "sleep" in the corner of their eye(s) upon awakening. Not me.

I also think this is part of the dry eye problem, obviously. Do others have this lack of mucous in their eyes?

    Lucy,
I can honestly say every morning when I wake up the stuff that is in the corners of my eye and is leaking out of each eye is totally gross. It's thick and gunky and I'm not sure what it is really.
I can't start the day without taking a Q-tip and digging all the stuff out of each eye.
Be grateful you don't have it, because yes it is gross!

I believe I don't have it because I have no "mucin". Perhaps I'm not saying that right. I don't want junk, but would like some lubricating stuff which apparently I no longer have.

        nope

When I was younger, I had gunk in my eyes when I woke up, now there's nothing. I think it has to do with dry eye or blepharitis that i suffer from.

          sleepy doo

          Hi,

I know this is a really old thread, but thought I'd post though. I have conjunctivochalasis - and since having this condition, I have not had any sleepy- doo that I used to have in the corner of my eyes upon awakening. Thus, I assume that my mucin layer is also somewhat non-existent.

I've found the "hydro eye" supplements to be of some help - as it contains a mucin factor to it - but wish they'd change the formula as it has omega 6's (as well as omega 3s) in it and all the research on dry eye suggests that omega 3s are much better
