  • Medicinal Silver and Dry Eye

I went to an herb shop to buy chrysanthemum to make tea for dry eye and the herb guy gave my a bottle of medicinal silver, he told me it will clear up any infection as well as soothe. Has anyone tried this?

The only thing I know about silver is that it has been used historically to treat infections. It is also used in Similisan eyedrops as a preservative, presumably because it kills bacteria.

    "Inactive Ingredient:
Borate buffer, Sodium nitrate, Silver sulfate (as preservative), purified water"

Be careful with silver supplements. Too much over a long period can lead to a condition called argyria, which is a bluish-gray pigmentation in the skin and other organs from deposition of the metal.

I swallowed a tablespoon of it occasionally and even dropped some in my eyes during more desperate times. It is supposed to be a natural antibiotic. I've actually seen skin bandages lined with silver.

I did nothing to improve my dry eyes.
