  • Update on Clinical Trials for Androgen Drops

I just got off the phone with a very, very nice man from the Andover Eye Center who works with Dr. Abelson (see previous posts) and they will be starting clinical trials for the Androgen drops from Allergan at the end of this year or very early 08 out of the Andover, MA office.

For anyone who wants to get more information, you can go to www.eyedrop.com. There is a form there to fill out if you are interested in participating.

Minimum of 6 visits required over the course of 6 months...he thought probably 2 visits in 2 weeks after starting and then less frequently.

He said they do 10 or more clinical trials and specialize in dry eye.

I am going to follow up now and filling out the form.

    eternal thanks

Thank you so much, Natalie, for this info. I registered to be contacted, immediately on finding your post. Wonderful of you to follow this development, and to make it available to all of us!

a pair of ladies in 2 pairs of goggles with 2 pairs of pups

I would love nothing better, Natalie! So glad you have furry buddies to hang in there with you. . .Mine keep me motivated and active, for sure. . .I have 2, as well. . .The shy-er one is not yet an Avatar, but he may agree to this soon. . .

Regarding the clinical trial, I registered only on the assumption that it might be happening in multiple locations. . .I don't think they'd want out-of-towners for the Boston-area process. . .So I just contacted my former and soon-to-be-again opthalmologist at Wilmer, Esen Akpek, in hopes she is one of the test sites. . .She participates in lots of trials, and is a dry eye specialist. . .

There have been no innovations I know of at Wilmer, for many years, for DES, but it was Dr. Akpek who once tried, with a beautiful advocacy letter, to get me insurance coverage for moisture chambers. . .The insurance company laughed at us, of course, but I'll never forget Dr. A's gesture. .

Are the androgen trials associated with Allergan's ongoing androgen research? If so, I would expect multiple trial locations. . .or possibly that happens only in later phases, when drug efficacy is the key issue. . .(Possibly the upcoming Boston trial is more about safety?)
