  • I can feel my eyelids

There is something wrong with my eyes.
My eyes are able to feel my eyelids.
And I am not able to move my eyeballs because of
a lubrication problem between the eyeballs and eyelids.
Could it be Meibomian gland dysfunction or
    is it something else?
    Eyedrops dont seem to help.
    Please advise.

    Thanks in advance,
    Pradeep

    Hello.
Well you really need to start with an Optometrist who will do some testing and have a proper look. First thing you need to discover is if it a deficiency with either the aqueous or lipid component of your tears. This will point you to the possible cause and correct treatment, hopefully.

I would agree a visit to the doctor is in order. It does sound like dry eye. But, there are other possibilities like GPC or another allergy-related issue. Best of luck.

I actually visited an ophthamologist recently.
He did a TBUT test and found that mine was only
        slightly lower than the average.
Also he could not find any pathology beneath my eyelids.
He suggested that I try visine drops and tears again gel
        for some time.
They do not help at all.
Is there anything condition that I should
        specifically request my ophthamologist
to diagnose the next time I visit him?
        When I warm-compress , I find a burning sensation
        inside my eyes.
        Is that normal?
        Thanks.

Your hot compresses may be too hot. They need to be warm. If the compresses really are aggravating you, perhaps you shouldn't be doing them. For relief, you might consider doing cold compresses. This will not help with any meibomian gland issues if there are any, but may make you feel better.

Visine products in the States are bad choice for any eye condition. They are preserved with BAK which can ultimately cause real damage and would be less than ideal in helping you overcome any tear deficiency or meibomian gland problem. Where do you live?

I know nothing about Tears Again gel.

There are many drops out there that dry eye patients like. I don't know even a fraction of them, but I'll name a few...the Refresh family of drops, Systane, Genteal Gel. Avoid any gels that contain petrolatum. Petrolatum does not mix well with tears. I am partial to the eyedrops sold on this web site at the Dry Eye Shop (see top of screen).

You might also consider drops that are packaged as non-preserved, individual vials. These might be ideal for you as you've been using Visine for a while.

I am bothered that you do not seem to be getting much from your doctor. Perhaps it is time to find someone else?

I'm sure you'll get a lot of additional advice here. Best of luck.

Thanks for your detailed response , dianat.

I feel like I can glean more out of this forum than

            visiting an ophthamologist!

On googling I think that there is some problem with my mucus layer.

"The inner sides of the eyelids which touch the eyeball, are covered by a thin membrane (the palpebral conjunctiva) that produces mucus to lubricate the eye. "

            http://www.medicinenet.com/eye_care/article.htm

Thats why I probably am able to feel my eyelids.

However I am surprised that my ophthamologists couldnt find anything
wrong on observation through their microscopes!
Maybe I should try the NAC supplement that I read somewhere on this
forum and see if that provides any relief.

I have an upcoming appt with my doctor.
I 'll keep you all posted.
Thanks for all your responses and I hope a few more keep coming!

              Hi Pradeep,

Your case is similar to mine. My TBUT is normal and my tear production is almost zero. I was diagnosed with MGD/ocular rosacea. Punctal occlusion, lid scrub and mosture chamber glasses will help you. Restatis will help you too....

PS Finding a doctor with true expertise in dry eye is a challenge but New York(Dr. Latkany) is not very far from NC.....

              Good luck!

Hi Pradeep - I'm from Raleigh, NC as well. I would recommend that you see Dr. Craig Fowler at UNC-Chapel Hill. Dr. Fowler is a cornea specialist and is the best dry eye MD in the area by far based on my experience with several MD's. If you want to ask me any further questions, feel free to send me an e-mail at ... mega_justice@earthlink.net.
