New corneal erosion-need suggestions this weekend

Hi Gang,

Looks like I woke up to a new corneal erosion this morning.

I have been using Muro 128 drops for preventative purposes, supplemented with regular dry eye dropping during the day and GenTeal Gel at night.

How would you IMMEDIATELY treat this, as I can't get to a doctor or call one until Monday?

Would the saline in Muro 128 be too harsh for an open wound? Would you push the gel? I just can't remember how I was initially treated, except with a bandage lense when the progress was slow.

Open to any suggestions - I know to gel up at bedtime, or even tape up with gel in my eyes, as well as to drop up as I open then in the morning.

So sorry to hear that you are getting erosions. When my erosions were the worst-- happening several times a night and scaring the PA who was my first-line of medical help-- I was put on Muro 128 5% immediately when I was rushed to the corneal specialist. It helped me, but afterwards, I was reading about rce's, and I came upon a doctor who says to wait for healing to happen before taking them:

I can say that with mine, I felt the eye dry out (in a good way) within the first six hours, taking the Muro drops every three hours. I got my first good night of sleep in days after that, and it really helped me. The only reason that I left it and went to an osmotic drop was because I felt that in the long term, the Muro dried the tissue of my lids and made my eyes red and irritated.

Something that helped me during erosions, and I still do it for a few nights after I have one, is that I will sleep in a recliner. It is not optimal, but it holds my head steady during sleep-- the time when healing happens most quickly. Then, after a few nights without erosions, I go back to my bed. That worked so well that I did it for the whole month of October.

Thanks for the help. I was in so much pain that I called the emergency number at the large eye firm I use. They told me that I had an infection with the erosion, most likely, and gave me a prescription for drops. They made a HUGE difference...and they advised me not to use any other drops or gel until the antibiotics were finished.

Today I went to the eye doctor for a follow up. All infection is gone, and the erosion appears to be something else - a microcyst that was previously flattened has reared its ugly head again.

So today I'm back to the Muro 128. I do think that another hypertonic drop like Dwelle is called for in the future as part of my dry eye dropping procedures.

I remain so appreciative of my helpful friends on this site.

Thank you for posting your update. I've been thinking of you and concerned that something had happened to keep you off of the computer. When my erosions were horrible, I could not stand the computer at all.

I'll just add that I do not use the Muro drops (they are nasty) but have been directed by my ophth to use Muro 128 ointment as often as needed during an erosion, and at night to help prevent. The ointment is not like Refresh PM, for me it's not as greasy.
