Contacts left and right

Does it matter which eye the lenses is designed for? Not prescription wise, but is the actual shape different depending on whether it is designed for the right or left eye? so if you had both eyes the same prescription would it say on the bottle which was for left and right? I know this isn't dry eye related but I thought a doctor might know.
