Quick ? About Allergies

I just got back from opthalmologist check up and am continuing w/ lower silicon plugs, upper plugs (he says they are permanent but they must be in the tear duct canal), restasis, theratears/biotears, barleans liquid flax seed oil, and doxycycline. He says no mgd/blepharitis, just aqueous deficiency. Today's Schirmers were 7 lt and 2 rt. I asked him about the redness on the nasal side and he gave me some optivar. I have never been tested for allergies. I have seen the inner side of my lower eyelids inflamed often. Could I have allergies and they just be affecting my eyes by drying them out? Can allergy irritation last all year and not just be seasonal?

You can be allergic to things (such as dust mites and mold) that are present year-round so, yes, you can have allergies that are not seasonal. Dr. Latkany discusses allergies in his book, and I think there are several posts about allergies on his forum. You might consider getting tested to rule it in or out as a possible cause of your DES.

It might also be the other way around...fewer tears mean less ability to clear allergens that might not normally have bothered you or are now more bothersome. Either way, the anti allergy should help.

I am kind of curious, though, why you are taking Doxy if you don't have MGD/Blepharitis?

You never Know

I had never been diagnosed w/ MGD/Blepharitis but during my previous check up I had used Dakrina earlier and there was a small amount of white residue on my lashes. I told him about the drops but he said it was slight blepharitis. Hence the the doxy and antibiotic ointment. I wish that there a single right answer and cure for each of our eye problems. DN
