  • Outside

    Hello,
So, I thought the dry eyes were getting a bit better -- but I've been outside more these past few days. And they are much worse now. I worse sunglasses today, but is there anything else I can do short of goggles? I just can't bring myself to do that yet.

I suppose I should have lubricated more while I was out there -- playing ultimate frisbee (kinda like soccer).

Also I can't seem to kick the terrible puffy, dark circles in the morning. I am using the tranquileyes, seems I have too, b/c when I don't I wake up with dry eyes.

I've felt so depressed about all my lasik issues I haven't been able to think straight for almost 2 months now. Aside from dry eyes, I have bad headaches ;( Any help on how to divert my thoughts are appreciated.

When I am playing golf I pretty much have to wear wrap around sunglasses that fit snuggly on my face and block out most of the light. Some of the products you will find on here are the Wiley X brands, I think. I don't know what kind of sunglasses you have, but I highly suggest getting a good pair of wrap arounds becasue they have really helped me out a lot when I am going to be outside for a while. I hope this helps.

      lboogie,

Reconsider the goggles. At least try them on. You may be surprised how decent they look. In an effort to offer suggestions for keeping your mind off your eye troubles, it sounds like you're on the right track. If you're outside playing, that's a huge start. Adding protective eyewear will help you help yourself. I took up road biking last year...the exercise is great for my physical and mental well-being. The bonus was that goggle-wearing is perfectly normal.

I also had headaches in the extraordinarily stressful days post-LASIK. The exercise will help relieve this type of stress. I enjoyed going to movies as well where I could wear my goggles and nobody saw me. Lastly, I used to listen to books on tape at night and I truly loved it. TV was out of the question, not that I was much of a watcher anyway.

My best to you at this juncture.

The word "goggles" sounds like something that would make you look bug-eyed.

How about "high end sports sunglasses with a removeable foam-lined eyecup". That's how I'd describe Panoptx and Wiley-X sunglasses. They come in a variety of styles. If in some circumstances the insert makes you self-conscious, you can just pop it out and slip it in your pocket or purse.

I remember when these were always referred to as goggles. I never tried them, because I didn't think of myself as one of "those" people that was so desperate they needed to. Then a rep talked me into trying Panoptx and sent me a pair.

I walked outside with them. Very soon, my attitude towards those sunglasses was "Where have you been all my life???"

I bought the charuda Panoptx last month. I never found the foam-lined eyecup comfortable...found it more irritable. Since i removed it... i actually like the sunglasses and they offer about 70-80% protection...which is what i prefer. My eyes feel very good in them....and i think that i look gorgeous. 100% protection seems to suffocate and irritate my eyes .. .i believe that protective sunglasses work better when they allow a bit of air circulation. Well that is my 15 year experience. My eyes feel pretty good wearing these sunglasses, as the lenses remain away from the eyes...some wrap around sports glasses get too close to my eyes.

            Guard Dog sunglasses

I recently tried the "Guard Dog" sunglasses and I sent them back. They were too close to my eyes on the bottom and it touched my lashes and I found that very annoying. Also, the foam did not make full contact with my face. They weren't bad looking and I liked the concept and the interchangable lenses but For $134, they need to work and not be annoying.

I'll see what I can find in terms of something that will work for lower light conditions too -- I live in cloudy Oregon, so sunglasses aren't always called for.

I'm mostly ashamed and embarrassed to need them after choosing to do this surgery. Granted, I'm only 2 1/2 months out -- but I'm just scared that it will be a lasting condition.

Thanks for all your help -- I've been so consumed with fear of the unknown, I can't even think straight most days.

                lboogie,

I don't wear my goggles nearly as much as I used to. Things are a lot better now. Consider the things you use now (like goggles) to be "bridging" your current situation into a much better one.

                Please keep the faith.

                  Hi iboogie,

I live in Hillsboro and I am looking for a good doctor. Have you met one?
                  Thanks,

                    Intermediate solution - fit-over sunglasses

I need a little extra protection outside that regular sunglasses don't provide, but not necessarily as much as the high-end goggles give. My sunnies lead a hard life, so I hate to spend too much on them. Sooner or later they always get scratched or sat on, no matter how careful I am. I've found a pretty good intermediate solution. On my last visit to the US, I went to WalMart and bought some relatively cheap (less than $20) fit-over sunglasses. They don't have foam, but they wrap around a bit and they have flanges to extend the frames closer to your face without the lenses being too near. They're not the best in really windy conditions, but in normal conditions and in the car (I have trouble with the breeze from the defroster and the air conditioner,) they do a great job for me. I just wish they made clear ones for night-time driving!

                      I got those, too

I got those "fit-over" kind, too. I found them at Rite-Aid. They do help some!
I would *love* to have a pair of the real wrap-around "goggles" with the liner but I'd need it in a prescription, so no way can I afford it! I have both eye and medical insurance (separate) and the medical pays for all dry eye-related stuff (like my plugs, I can't say enough about how great my insurance is!). I wonder if medical insurance would pay for part....(?)
At home I can wear the Onion goggles for working on the computer, but I can't see anything far away :P
Diana, what are you wearing in the photo you have posted?
