Dwelle and Dakrina update

Hello everyone from sunny Hartlepool.
Its been 2 months since I received my shipment from Rebecca and I thought I would give you my update on progress.
I have not found much difference between Dwelle and Dakrina and usually use whichever one is closest to be honest! But I do feel that they have really worked well. After getting used to the initial stickiness and the occasional glueing up of the bottle, I have found that they really help with RCEs and when the dry eye symptoms start to kick in. I have noticed a little stinging but more importantly it seems to focus on what I call my dry spot on the eye that was lasiked. It really seems to target the problem area and, although I still get early onset symptoms, a few drops usually sort it.
They are definitely the best drops I have used in the last 30 months and I am really enjoying life at the moment.
Now if Rebecca could only source a supplier in the UK my joy would be complete! £29 is quite a lot but having said that I have seen days when I would have spent £1000 for one nights sleep so I am not complaining too much.

Love to everyone and keep hoping; 2 years ago I thought my life was over through dry eye and it has completely turned round now.

It is good to hear that the drops are working for you! I did not know that you suffered from RCE's. Dr. Holly's drops really *do* target the spot that is prone to erosion. I think that I recall Rebecca saying that it is a "grabby" feeling, and I noticed that right from the start. It must be the epithelium coming closer to the basement membrane and not having the fluid in between.

I hope that your eyes establish those "anchor" cells that keep the epithelium down. Dr. Foulks said in an article that it can take some months; my doctor said that it can take up to a year. However, it is great to think about the possibility of further improvement, even after the drops do a lot to restore normacy.

Great news that you are finding some result from Dwelle and Dakrina.

I have also found that Clinitas Ultra 3 (based on Dwelle) and available in the UK for £8.00 or so has helped with the RCE's

It is nice to go to sleep with a drop rather than a gel and wake in the morning without an erosion.

However, it has not all been smooth sailing, I am finding at the moment that my eyes are burning again, so I just don't seem to be able to win with it.

I am only recommending that you try Clinitas Ultra as it is readily available in the UK, and is essentially Dwelle with a lipid component, I would absolutely support Dwelle and Dakrina if they were available here and feel like a traitor for not buying them from the DES and supporting this wonderful community even more but sometimes it comes down to pennies and we all know how expensive it can be.

If I were in the UK, I'd try Clinitas Ultra 3. Is it preservative free?

I think that the coolest thing about how Rebecca runs things at the DEZ is to help everyone, and she does that by considering costs, too. Her "bottom line" seems to be about helping people to heal. (Hey, Rebecca, how did someone who is a professional in finance get to be so cool? )

Personally, if it is good for my eyes, I will find a way to buy it. I could not keep living like I was with RCE's, and my every interaction with the DEZ has been positive, helpful, and understanding, something that I really needed about 10 months ago.

I hope that you get the burning under control, Ian. I hope to one day get to the point where I can just use Dwelle and not worry about gel (and reapplying it through the night), oh, and naps would be nice, too.

Wait! So the grabby feeling is something everyone feels, or just RCE folks?! I used to feel it -- not so much anymore.

Dakrina stings!

I have been trying to use Dakrina over the past few weeks. Initially there was a little stinging when I would put the drops in & I was using them alongside Systane. It's been about three weeks and now when I put the drops in they sting like crazy & my eye goes really redder for a minute or so.
Anyone else had similar experience?

My eyes do the exact same thing -- get red, and hurt with Dakrina at first. Dwelle however has been doing well for me recently, so I'm sticking with it.

Suneet: Dakrina will sting at first, especially if the surface of your eyes is damaged. For me, the stinging lessened after my eyes healed. Dakrina also takes a few minutes to "set up." I always make sure not to plan on driving until about 10 minutes after instillation.

I would recommend not using Systane or other OTC drops when you're using Dwelle or Dakrina. My experience says they interfere with the benefits you get from Doc Holly's drops.

If the stinging of Dakrina really bothers you, you might want to use Dwelle for a couple of weeks (which will allow your eyes to heal), and then add Dakrina back to your routine. If you need a lighter weight drop during the day, NutraTear will not interfere with Dwelle or Dakrina, but it doesn't have the long-lasting properties of those two. NutraTear will also sting on instillation if your eyes are damaged.
