  • Floaters?

    Hi!
Could someone please tell me what a floater is?
Over the past week or so I have noticed that i often see a small dark shadowy line/dot/blob kinda go past my eyes, like, float past my vision...
I am wondering if that is what floaters are?
    Thanks.
Have a good long weekend all!

Sounds like a floater to me. Don't worry about it--it's just cell debris inside the eyeball and it's casting a shadow on the retina. You can't really look AT them---they always slide past. Floaters are pretty common. If you notice a "rain of black dots" though, get to an eye doctor immediately, 'cause those are little red blood cells and that means something's bleeding---the retina.

Actually, the first time you notice floaters you should call your eye doc and get in for an exam ASAP. It is probably just vitreous detaching, but there is a remote possibility of a torn Retina. Time can be the difference between losing your sight and keeping it. Please call and schedule to see your eye doctor ASAP.
