  • A lack of sleep is the number 1 worst thing for my eyes

well maybe not number as there are alot of things that make my eyes bad such as bright fluorescent light. but I notice that I get a good nights sleep 8+, my eyes look and feel pretty good. if i get less like 3-4 or even 6 my eyes look and feel alot worse!

Is it the same for you guys? Can this be a sign for anything?

I think I am going to go back to an ophthalmologist as I havent been in a while and my eyes are still dry/red. I used to be on doxycycline but that didnt help really. I was on it for at least a year or 2. At first i was on minocycline for acne and then doxy for acne and then doxy again because my oil glands were infected/not producing enough oil.

any suggestions? Its not too bad right now as its really humid in the summer but I feel like it cant hurt going to an opthamologist(a new one I think).

    Hi,

You really should get hold of Dr. Robert L's book on dry eye that is for sale though the drye eye store. It gives great tips and insight and is a great way to get a handle on all the factors that contribute to dry eye. This will help you get prepared for the post summer pain.

And as for the sleep. He deals with in the book. He says getting 8 hours sleep is very important as it gives the oil in the tear film a chance to settle around the whole eye...or something like that.

But if you think about it, even people who don't have "dry eye" will often feel that their eyes are a little sore, or feel bloodshot, if they don't have enough slepp. Its just for dry eye sufferers we are more sensitive to all things.

I really can't recommend this book enough. it is a fast read and will give you a load of tips in one day that it could take you months to figure out by yourself.

    Keep well,

    B

I have always required a minimum of 8.5 hours of sleep in order to stay well and to function. Any less for even one night and I am at a physical and mental disadvantage. If I do it 2 nights in a row, I can guarantee that I will get sick. Even people without dry eye can experience dry eye symptoms if they don't get a good full 8 hours of sleep.
