you are absolutely not crazy. I have been told by several opthomologist that they see nothing wrong and I shouldnt be having any pain or irriration... What do they think- I randomly woke up one day after never complaining about anything (played on a broke ankle for soccer for 6 months) and decided I was going to make up that my eyes were bothering me?

Wide range
There seems to be a wide range of reactions to DES/Lasik peeps like us. There was one absolutely nasty evil person at the Lasik place I went to that would go out of his to be mean to me. I never looked down but I 'm sure there would have been marks in carpet from the acid that dripped out of his mouth. On the other end are some of the nicest people I have ever met. I can remember Dr. Jurkus gently telling me that ghost images I was seeing were just reflections. I was totally freaking out about then and thought I might be going blind. She knew just what, when and how to say it to calm me down. I think the best advice is to get a feel for how much the provider does or doesn't care. If you're getting negative vibes, move on and don't waste time, money and stress by interacting with the wrong people.

It seems like many of us have been going through a similar experience. Personally, I believe that if you feel it -it's there, so you're not crazy
as for the doctors... I better not say anything
I have no idea what treatments/drops/drug you tried, but I suggest you look at my post:routine and drugs for MGD http://www.dryeyezone.com/talk/showt...2146#post32146
Finally, I my personal experience and the experience of many other that dealing with mental aspect of it is extremely important and there are many approaches, for me I find Vipassana meditation http://www.dhamma.org (goenka tradition works best after I have been trying many many approaches. You may find the following meditation technique useful " WONDERFUL parctical technique to deal with pain, deprecion & strengthen the mind :-) "http://www.dryeyezone.com/talk/showthread.php?t=5018Make no mistake, when I mention the mental work I didn't imply that you're crazy not at all, but this is cuasing mental pain as well, and since this disease is very limiting and people around don't understand it, many time we find ourself "fighting" not only the disease itself but the doctors/medical system/family/friends/society. This require a strong mind, but this helpful to everyone, sick or healthy. (of course some are lucky to have a wonderful supportive friends/family and good doctors)
I would like to add that some inflammation related to DES are sterile and are not backterial, however, most doctors misdiagnosed it and treat as it was backterial and prescribe steroid, anti-biotic, doxclyine and all the other "bad" stuff that make it worst in the long run (based on researches I've read and based on my own personal experience). Since those drugs can't be used for the long run anyway, it might be best to discusss with your doctor different alternatives such as avoiding those drugs and trying the treatment I personally apply as I 've written in the above link. Of course if you have backterial inflimmation you want to treat it firs but try have your doctor focus on the cause and explain it to you so you could work together to acheive maximum results. *To be clear, I'm not a doctor and this is not a medical advice by all mean !
get well

I get the feeling that I'm crazy. I've seen so many doctors and they just keep telling me that they don't understand why I have so much pain. My eyes are so red and dry but my cornea is healthy. I really suffer, I have pressure pain on my left eye 24/7 and my eyes are so red that I try to avoid looking at others. I cannot go out at night because of the pain and redness. But the doctors just keep telling me that my eyes aren't that bad and that they don't understand why I have so much pain.
I start to think about this- do I imagine the pain? I surely cannot image the redness because that is visiable...ah, I think I'm getting crazy. I just can't stop thinking about my eyes, it's the first thing I think about in the morining (good or bad day) and the last thing I think about before going to bed. I have pain and I'm afraid that my university degree is useless because I fear that I'll never be able to work in a normal way...
Is anybody else feeling like this? Am I crazy or is it all the doctor's fault? How can I manage to pay less attention to my eyes? I just keep thinking that my life would be perfect if only I didn't have these eye problems...

Did they use Fluorescein staining and Rose Bengal staining test to determine whether your your cornea/epithelium are somewhat demaged ?
if not you should have them have those test and they might change their mind...lol it happened to me !!! I went to many Ophthalmologists who said it not so bad, and when finally I found Oph to do those tests the whole 'pictures' changed...
When dry eye (instablity of the tear film) cuase demage to the epithelium this is a fact, if there was no demage associated with DES this wouldn't have been a problem and would not cause to pain. So there is demage the only question is where and whether suitable tools to verify it are on hand... (of course there are different degree of demage).
Continous complete wettability is essential for healthy occular surface, so when this isn't the case some degree of demage is unavoidable -period !
my advice find a good doctors, do do you live in Germany ? PM me as I know a great doctor there who suffer from Steven Johnson syndrom, and he is FABULOUS, so might be able to see you or refer you to someone worthwhile.Last edited by HOSADOS; 03-Aug-2008, 16:18.

In patient who have Rosacea, dysfunction of meibomian glands produces abnormal oily secration. The tear film becomes unstable and results in dry eye as well as chronic red irritated red eye.
Having said that, I wonder whether you have also MGD and Blepharitis.
What I have written in the previous post apply . NutraTear is usually effective in treating red eyes. Rigorous hygiene is KEY. Also drinking a lot of water also help in DES and with MGD and Rosacea in particular. Frequent showering also help and of course using humidfier if you're in low relative humidity climate (this would affect both your eyes and your skin ). Did you saw nutritionist /dietician ? as this might also affect the rosacea....
Patients with MGD frequently are noted to have coexisting rosacea and seborrheic dermatitis (Rosacea's Red Face).
Check out the following link, they claim to have a prodcut for this. I suggest you review it, as I haven't reviewed it myself.
http://http://www.rosacea-ltd.com/ocular.php3
To be precise, ocular rosacea is defined as an inflammatory eye condition often associated with acne rosacea. Ocular rosacea can cause a persistent burning or gritty feeling in the eyes. For others, ocular rosacea manifests itself as inflamed and swollen eyelids with small inflamed bumps, eye lashes that may fall out, compounded by bloodshot eyes (Dr. Thiboutot). The ophthalmic signs of ocular rosacea can vary widely, including blepharitis, conjunctivitis, iritis, iridocyclitis, hypopyoniritis, and even keratitis. (These conditions will be described in detail below.) The term ophthalmic or ocular rosacea covers all these signs. The most frequent signs, which may never progress to a more severe condition, are chronically inflamed margins of the eyelids with scales and crusts, quite similar to seborrheic dermatitis, with which ocular rosacea is often confused. Pain and photophobia (abnormal sensitivity to light) may be present. The ocular complications are independent of the severity of facial rosacea (Drs. OKEY!!!
Yes.. my eye became inflamed with continous computer work, yess my eyes become dry and maybe red bcoz of computer AND aircon..
but I can work.. I have severe dry eye... but i discover that:
1- PUTTT the Aircon on WET mode.... EVERYTIME its on dry mode, well, i KNOWWW it!.... and when its on wet mode.... i just feel.... ok for the rest of the day !!
2- don't forget to BLINK.
3-Don't forget to stop thinking of ur redness
4-tilt the screen upward
5-in extreme concentration or tiring time, just close ur eyes abit (to make ur eyelid cover ur eyes a bit more) and thus u can continue to work
6- refresh ur eyes with water regularly... its refreshing =D
7-sometimes, take magnesium.. it release tension a bit....

computer/des
I am challenge by working on the computer and still trying to resolve this issue. On that note let me add what I found helpful to make the computer work more tolerable:
(1) anti glare screen or filter
(2) high quality display -high resolution with the highest refresh rate as possible
(3) a good humidifier (see my post in the humidifier forum for more info)
(4) if you're wearing glasses then better have a special prescription glasses for the computer work to reduce the eye strain
(5) I'm now order a PantOpx (www.7eye.com) specifically for the computer use, to act as moister chambers, AC /wind shield and also to reduce the light and radiation from the display. Although Polarize lens could be problematic with some LCD display, if it works with your display Polarize lens could significantly ease the use of a comptuer.
(6) NutraTear eye drop (dr. holly's drop) is recommended for computer work
(7) taking breaks every 10-40 minutes depending on your condition and have some eye exercises to relax the eyes-for example change your focus from a close object to a far object gradually, etc
(8) blinking of course
(9) making sure the screen is in the optiaml distance (about the lenght of your arm) and thar you're sitting straight and looking down to the screen.
search the web for the optimal working enviroment with computer
