  • sore sensitive skin under eyes from heat-help!

Can anyone give me any suggestions...The skin under my eyes has been getting really dry, red and irritated-very sensitive since doing the warm compresses (the compresses and massage are really helping my glands though ) Anyway, i use eyecream but now I put vaseline under my eyes-the skin is just so tender there and I have ocular rosecea which I am sure doesn't help.

Any advice is welcome on how to moisturize under my eyes and help the redness and soreness!

    Thanks !~

Per Dr. L, rather than using hot compresses, let the hot water in the shower bounce off of your closed eyelids and then express your glands as soon as you get out of the shower. I do that and I also use a hot washcloth but I don't let it actually touch my face. I hold it about a half inch from my closed eyes for about thirty seconds and then express the glands.
Your (and my) rosacea skin is too sensitive to do the hot compresses directly on your skin.

I have this problem too, the skin around my eyes are starting to get red, puffy and ache a bit. I've tried Vaseline and Baby Oil but its not really helping. I also have Pure Vitamin E Oil at home - may try that or else get a VERY GENTLE eye cream in the health shop.
Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated

thanks everyone. i am going to stick to the warm washcloth at least til my next apt. w/ Dr. Foulks-it has done amazing things for my MGD. I know he said that after a month he would only have me do it a few times a week or so.

I didn't think about vitamin E-I have been using eye cream from Clinique but I don't think it's quite heavy enough. I will keep searching for something more emoliant and if I find something will let everybody know.

Thanks so much for the advice!

I used Pure Vitamin E Oil last night mixed with some baby oil. It was a bit TOO oily.

i actually have been putting vaseline under my eyes and on top of my lids for a few minutes before i do the warm compress in the morning and at night.. it really seems to help as i guess the warmth still melts the oil in the glands but my skin seems to be protected from the heat by the vaseline layer. then after i use my clinique ultra eye cream... so far so good..

Good idea but does the Vaseline not migrate into the eyes then when doing the warm compress.
