  • Eat Red Grapes!

I have MGD/ Posterior Blepharitis. I've tried just about everything. During the past 5-6 weeks I have eaten 20 red grapes in the morning and 20 red grapes in the evening. Over the first weeks I noticed slight improvement, then after week 4, a transition happened that I have been waiting for... I had oil flowing out of my eyelids. My eyes didn't hurt anymore. The pain in my upper eyelids was gone. I continue my warm compresses, oils and lid massaging as usual. But now instead of having 70% improvement, I have 95% improvement. I stopped the grapes for a few days and my discomfort slowly returned after 5-6 days. I went back on the grapes and my eyes feel great! I'm curious to hear any other stories of MGD sufferers eating grapes or taking supplements containing NAC or resveratrol.

I should create my own vineyard :-)

very interesting Billyboy! Thanks for sharing. I may try this. I think I do the night part with red wine, but as alcohol is so drying, I don't think that would be the answer!

Apparently there is a more pure amount of resveratrol in actual grape skin than in wine itself. There are also resveratrol supplements of which I started a few weeks ago.

Thanks! I was just joking earlier, but I'm going to try this myself with the grapes and will also look for resveratrol supplements. Do you get those at health food stores? I guess I could shop on-line as well! Thanks again!

Thanks billyboy- what do yoy think its causing your MGD/prosterior blepth? allergies, rosacea? did you have blocked glands or inflammation?

Do you think the supplements had a better effect than the grapes?

I tried NAC supplements in the past, didnt help, but im up for trying almost anything, particularly inexpensive things, so ill give grapes a go.

            Judy and Sazy,

I had no problems with my eyes until undergoing LASIK surgery 2 1/2 years ago. I has some dry eye symptoms for a few months afterwards, then the MGD symptoms occurred (Sore eyes, eyelids). My docs feel I must have had the MGD/posterior Bleph. before surgery, but it went undetected. Then after the surgery, it somehow flared up. I don't know if the supplements or the grapes have been more effective. I am currently on Doxy 50 mg/ twice a day for 2 months now. When doing warm compresses and massaging, I hear lots of squishing and "tons" of oil comes out the upper lids. A much smaller amount comes out the lower lids. I hope this is a good thing. My upper lids become full of oil daily and become sore. I then apply some pressure... squish.. and the oil escapes. Then they are fine for a few hours. Very weird, I know. Does anyone else have these symptoms? I take about 4 grams of fish oils, primrose oil, flaxseed oil daily also...

Nothing comes out of mine when i press them, the inflammation makes them not function properly, i think! and they just dont produce the oil. So there is no oil there to help move through with hot compresses/lid wipes/ or massage.

And funnily enough none of the above treatments have improved it

                Sazy,

I'm sorry to hear that. How often do you place lubricating drops in your eyes? Are they better if you are at the beach during the summer? I assume you have seen the few doctors in the country who specialize in lid problems? Have you tried Hydro-Eye?

I use drops but they dont help, they dry up very quickly. so i dont use them that often coz its pointless.
I havent seen any doctors like that- just a couple of eye specialists, two corneal specialists in the UK- all couldnt do much or do much and i have to pay so i dont see anymore there's no point- seen as ive tried everything and i have diagnosed myself.
Yes i did try it, along with fish oils etc- didnt help at all. My problem is my inner eyelids- i have chronic conjunctivitis- which is either an allergy (unlikely have exhausted this possibility) or vascular damage (ocular rosacea- more likely). The inflammation is autoimmune and nothing will shift it- not even steroids. It will go away when im ill- and my glands work fine in this case and they flow nicely, but they will not flow with the inflammation there.

sazy, as you know I have been following ure story and we have spoken on occasion...

Are you coming to the US anytime soon? if you do, i reccommend you see Dr. Latkany.

I have used NAC also, using MSM as well, and taking fish oil. My eyes have been getting better but I am not sure why. I still havent gone to an allergist but will do so soon. I also may have red blotches on my face (rosacea lasered off my face.
Current Diagnosis: MGD due to Ocular Rosacea , TBUT of 5 seconds

Hi did you try ipl then? you said 'lasered off your face'.

I will just have to accept soon that nothing helps, im doing several things at the mo- but i know they wont help. I tried protopic on eyelids (used to much tho)- had warm burning for two days and eyes are no different today so not gonna try that for a while. Also still doing the omega, GLA etc

Using msm drops- noticed nothing so far.

                      its all pretty useless.

I havent given things long enough recently, i just no its not gonna work sometimes tho. the inflamed innereyelids is just too bad, i mean if steroids wouldnt even do anything!!

I have already seen Dr latkany, he suggested allergies- this is what promoted me to get the tests done (skin pricks- were negative) and get air purifyer and clean my room for dust etc and he gave me pat a day (patonal)- it all made no difference. Previously i have been on several different allergy eye drops with no help!! I do want to get intradermal tests done, but its all money, nothing is ever covered on the NHS like this- for nickel because i am apparently sensitive to nickel (and i do have an upper brace), just been to an allergist who does kiesology (sp). But i dont know if i trust it. It doesn't make sense because i dont react to nickel anywhere else.

Im convinced its ocular rosacea not allergies because my inner eyelids react alot to things (vascular)- ie they will go really red when i cry or i put certain drops in that sting abit. But treatments which help ocular rosacea havent helped either such as doxy, lid scrubs, and azasite.

Its very frustrating because i hear people on here improving and getting manageable- but that seems out of the picture for me. I know the glands can work coz they do when im ill- thats also very frustrating that they wont unless im ill! although i have seen some help from progesterone cream but not enough to be manageable and the inflammation of inner eyelids remains the same.

                        Red grapes

I've been eating red grapes for the last 2 days, and unfortunately have ended up with bad tummy ache!!! I am trying to get resvaratrol, but as with many things you talk of in the US, it's quite difficult to get over here. The only supplier I could see in the UK was "out of stock", so if anybody in the UK knows details of where I can get it from, please let me know. I also take flaxseed oil, evening primrose oil, fish oil (actually it's a wonder I don't slither along really) along with many other supplements. I have to get up half an hour earlier to take them all and unpick my eyes!!
