I am new to this forum. While the ophthalmologists zIve seen over the years have never explained my underlying cause for severe dry eyes, I realize I must seek help on my own. I recently was following Hokucat’s history of dry eyes. At present I am on autologous serum tears and thanks to Hokucat, I started General Severe Dry Eye Gel. I also ordered the EyeSeal 4.0 as was recommended. It was mentioned that there were places such as PROSE scleral clinic or places that make custom scleral lenses like Eye Print Pro. I have searched for these places in Tennessee, Alabama and Georgia to no avail. Can someone help? Thanks!

Hi Ursula, Hokucat here! I happened to just post an update to my story today and saw your post. This link has all the EyePrintPRO providers. There are several in Tennessee, Alabama, and Georgia:

I think you’re right there are not any PROSE clinics in those states. But I know people do travel out-of-state to PROSE clinics, and they do accommodate them to be as efficient as possible with the consultation and initial fittings when you come, but you may need to stay for at least a few days.
I am glad you found some of the things I mentioned helpful from my history, and are being your own advocate. It can be tough at times, but keep going. And you can also feel free to DM me and/or continue posting in the forum, and I will help where I can. I can’t guarantee how quickly I will respond, but know I will get back to you.

Hokucat - Thank you so much for responding. I forgot to mention I have also incorporated your green tea/lemon into my daily ritual. Question: Would I be better off to travel to one of the PROSE clinics or just visit one of the Eye Print Pro providers? Which route would you recommend? How do they differ?
I am so happy I am corresponding with someone who understands this condition. Thank you.

I think either would be fine. A lot depends on the experience and expertise of the scleral specialist doing the fitting. I only have experience with PROSE which has been around longer. But I have a friend who got the EyePrintPRO and it worked well for her.
PROSE, unless things have changed since I got them many years ago, usually select the patient’s lenses from their large set of lenses of different sizes. Usually there’s lenses in that set that fit most patients, based on their experience with the hundreds of thousands of patients they have fitted. I think they can also order lenses with some adjustments, if needed. Also, PROSE clinics take care of all the insurance paperwork and know exactly what’s needed to justify the lenses, if they deem you a candidate.
EyePrintPRO actually takes a mold of your eyeball from which to make a custom scleral just for you. Some people have to get a custom lens, because of certain eye conditions or the shape of their eyeball where they might not fit into the sets PROSE has. Logically it seems having a custom shaped lens would be superior, but PROSE has worked well for me and others so custom lenses may not be necessary in most cases. Several years ago I heard EyePrintPRO had patients submit their own paperwork to insurance, but that’s probably changed now and I’m sure you can ask up front about that.
Since getting the right fit for sclerals can take several fittings, which could be over several months for some people, maybe try EyePrintPRO since there are providers in your area. But I would recommend finding one with extensive experience and expertise, I cannot emphasize how important that is. Ask how long they’ve been doing it, how many patients they’ve successfully fitted, maybe even speak to some of their patients if possible or at least read reviews if there are any.
Hope this helps!
