meibomian gland probing
Dr. ****** in Tampa, Fl. performed this procedure to umplug my very plugged meibomian glands. He uses an instrument that he developed especially for unclogging meibomian glands. He also injected the unplugged glands with a medication( a steriod I think). Almost instantly my eyes felt better. I can't begin to tell you what a change this has made to my eyes and my life. Dr. ****** is a genius in his field and specializes in dry eyes and eye surface problems. He has helped me more than any of the many of Drs. that I have seen over the past six years. I hope more opthalomolgist across the country will learn to perfrom this pricedure. I don't think most Drs. really understand how to treat dry eyes and MGD. It is not a cheap procedure ,but if you can be persistant with your insurance company, you can get it covered, because Dr. ****** is an out-of -network provider for most insurance companies.Originally posted by Ked View PostHello,
Just want to post a link to an interesting article. It is about a potential new technique to physically unclog meibomian glands.

Anyone heard of that ?
I could stand on soapbox all day and rave over Dr. ****** and his expertise .

any updates on this phillip?Originally posted by Philipp_from_Germany View PostI have contacted an (dry eye specialised) Optometrist in my vicinity. He was thrilled by the invention and has ordered the device from Dr. ******. I will undergo this procedure in a few weeks and post an update...
Here is an interesting quote from his response:
"The technique is easy and less and less invasive than unblocking an occluded tear duct, which I do routinely. At last - tools for manually unblocking them. Fed up of expressing them."
I ll keep u guys posted

rebecca can you pm me the doctor you know?
running out of options and may consider this in the future.
this could help me, although my glands arent obviously blocked, by the description of blood vessels and tissue overgrowth deeper.. that's possible because my MGD is deffo ocular rosacea/ blood vessel related
thanks

Azasite Works
It's painful to put in but it really works! I think I will try a continuous dose. I've been using up the bottle and then stopping and the first week after treatment is bliss. Then the nightmare returns and I'm back where I started. It is so painful to put in that I haven't really wanted to make it an ongoing treatment, but I think I'm going to have to.Originally posted by soulshine67 View PostI have read about Azasite- haven't found a dr. that will prescribe it though. Have you tried it- and had success?

Is the doctor you know doing the probing, located in WA? If so, could you PM me his/her name please?
Many thanks.

****** probe
Hi Farrah,
What is the cause of your dry eye - lasik, rosacea...? Aside from helping the swelling, what other symptoms did the probing improve?
Thanks for any info.

Probing by Dr. ******
Just wanted to say that I had the probing done by Dr. ****** a few months ago and it has helped me significantly. It hasn't eradicated all my symptoms, but my eyes are more comfortable, less red and not swollen at all

Azasite
Just to "butt in" here, I thought that Azasite was fairly standard in the treatment of MGD (i.e. Posterior Blepharitis?). After my first phase of treatment with Doxycycline was completed, I was clear for about two months. Then, when my oil glands "clogged" again, the Azasite was the treatment of choice - along with warm compresses/lid massages. I was on it for a month, and it was effective. As far as I can tell, it was also harmless. I'm grateful that my doctor knew not to keep on with the Doxycyline. From what I understand, it's not good to stay on that for a long time.
