  • Can anti-fungal meds/creams cause dry eyes?

My dry eyes began when I massaged anti fungal Neosporin AF for jock itch onto my head many months ago for the purpose of hair growth. I had read it works. I developed no appetite for long time, severe headaches, dry eyes, all at the same time, no coincidence and whatever else I did to myself I dont know. I massaged it into my head 2 weeks straight and the active ingredient is miconizole nitrate.

Now my doctor prescribed me an RX cream for a woman infection. I was to use it for one week straight. It too is part of the anti-fungal family. I used it once and then the next day i felt my eyes hurt more. I KNOW they hurt more not that i expected them to hurt more because of my nervousness and paranoia taking something that caused me so muhc problems. However, it could be coincidental too...

So now I have to choose between using the one week anti fungal cream or just taking a pill (diflucan) that will do the same job. I am tempted to do the latter because it is quick and I am not worried for 7 days straight what i did to myself. But I am dealing with chronic nausea as it is so worry about adding to it too. Yes I am a mess. Also, a pill may absorb more places? I got 2 rx's in 2 days and got different opinions from 2 pharmacists. Neither of course thought that the meds would cause me dry eye probs (because it is not listed as a side effect, i can read the insert too) but one said that the pill aborbs more and the other the cream.

I would like advice as to which is less likely to cause me eye problems and need to know ASAP since this is an immediate problem. Any ladies used this stuff since they developed dry eyes?

    THANK YOU!!!!

    Anti-fungal cream

    Hello, Vicky!

I've been using anit-fungal cream from time to time, but have not felt it has affected my eyes in any way (not better, not worse). I think the cream just work locally (or how do you say it.....).

    Greetings from Toril

Vicki, if you are worrying yourself into a frenzy.......take the pill and get it over with. I've taken diflucan many times. By getting so many different opinions and RX's you are just compounding your problem. It just makes you more confused. If you use the cream, I assume it's not near your eyes, therefore is different than when you massaged your scalp with it. Pick the ointment OR the pill and just go with it. Unless you want to keep dealing with the female problem.

Thanks you guys, I did take it and hopefully all will be fine. I was prescribed something that for SURE causes dry eyes too which I will start a new thread about as I am now stressed about that much more...

Vicky--take a break and go see a movie. Or, anything to take your mind off your eyes. You are way too stressed and this is making you so much worse. Anything that will HELP you think of anything but your eyes. Visiting friends, even though your mind/heart are not in it. Babysitting friend's children, offering to take care of someone's child or help out. Taking a few days off the bulletin boards will help too. Trust me, you do need go get off this for a bit. Even when my eyes are/were so bad I can hardly stand it, a movie will get me away for awhile. A casino will help me ALWAYS. I'm not suggesting you do that, of course. But, whatever you CAN safely do---

Unplug your computer for a few days. Trying to help. Lucy
