  • Systane Eye Drops - Great Results

Have spent weeks waking up through the night with the awful MGD pain.
Had tried several eye drops - last one was Optive - and several Viscotears products.

Read about Systane and asked my GP (in UK) whether I could try it.
Have only used it for three nights, so this may be a little premature, but I have had incredible results. Woke with the pain only once on the first night and slept through until 7 on next nights. I am now keeping my finger crossed.

The Systane drops I was prescribed are presesrvative free in single dose plastic capsules however you can twist off the cap and replace it after the first dose. One of these lasts me throughout a day (and night). I think it would be wasteful to throw away the capsule after a single dose.

Another thing I have found, since coping with this nightly pain, is to try not to open your eyes immediately on waking or feeling the pain. If I keep the lids close and massage gently for a while and then open my eyes then the discomfort is not as bad. Its not always easy to do this of course.

I will update on the Systane after using it for a further length of time.

Good Luck to others if you try it.

    I have what you have

heres some tips to sleep and survive dry eye pain at night

Go and buy some refresh PM preservative free nighttime ointment,
or something that compares with 42.5% mineral oil and White petrolatum 57%
    active ingredients

Go and also buy some ocufresh preservative free eye wash.
this will be eyewash that comes in bigger little vials like systaine

Use the eyewash in your eyes, just before you put in the Refresh PM

Lift back your lower eyelid squeeze a line from left to right under your eyelid of ointment let your eyelids crush the ointment down, dont look down

Then taken your fingers, place them on your lower eyelids and press them up. spread all the ointment all over your eye in this method. Look right move your eyelid up, look left evenly spread it, blink a few times and you can't see...And close your eyes and dont open them till morning.

If your eyes are severely dry from auto immune disorder

take some vasiline, dab a bit on your forehead and cheeks and take serran wrap...yea sounds rediculious...but put in some and place the serran wrap over your eyes and stick it to the petrolem jelly...it will hold on your face and lock in moisture like a moisture chamber goggle. cheap, comfortable...better

Do this over a few days and you will notice a major difference.
