So I haven't been on DEZ for a week (which is actually a long time for me ) because I actually went on vacation despite the horrific dry eyes, which usually keeps me from doing a lot of normal things. Spending money to go somewhere while suffering from dry eyes was incomprehensible to me. But I thought its been too long since I've gone anywhere, the deals are too good, so the heck with it, I went on a 7 day Mexican Riveria cruise. I was SO anxious beforehand...the thought of being stranded on a ship with eye pain and the A/C full blast, the sea breeze blowing in my eyes, and not being able to reach my doc, etc etc.
Surprisingly, my eyes felt about 70% better on average during my vacation! The first day was rough, the whole ship has the A/C on full blast, but as we went further down into Mexico, the humidity and heat increased dramatically. I was in 90+ degrees and 90+% humidity at port! The heat must have kept my MGs open and the extreme humidity nourished my eyes like an invisible moisture chamber to the point that I felt better than I have felt for the past two years! My light sensitivity even got better and the menthol sensation went down, the burning was almost gone. I even forgot about my eyes during moments at port...of course the beautiful sights helped. Because of the nourishment of my eyes at port, it was much easier for me to withstand the A/C back on the ship....in fact I haven't felt that comfortable in A/C in two years. I brought my hydrometer with me and found that in my stateroom, with the A/C on full blast nonstop, the humidity was still 60-70%. It was amazing. There was one area I couldn't handle though: the casino, I still couldn't stand the smoke.
Now that I'm back home, all my symptoms are back I'm thinking of moving to Mexico or Florida...haha. For you long term DE sufferers, I encourage you to go vacation in Mexico or any where tropical...it might actually give you a vacation from the dry eye pain, and that's something we all need.
