  • Best Dry Eye trip ever

    Hi All-
So very little good to say about dry eyes. I went to Las Vegas for the 3rd or 4th time since my Lasik almost 8 years ago. I was there 5 days and the weather was most beautiful. 80-85, sunny, no humidity and NO WIND (not even a breeze). I brought all my eye stuff, glasses, drops, goggles etc.

My eyes actually felt decent most of the time I was there! I was in and out of casinos, on public transportation, saw a couple of shows etc. I may have used my drops less than normal. This was a pleasant surprise and I have no explanation for it. I have been using steroids for a month or so and just added Restasis but only a week prior--so much too soon for any improvement on that note. I've used Restasis twice before, once for 7 months with no improvement.

Whatever the case, LV was hospitable to my eyes. There was much less smoke than normal in establishments, but it was more than that. At home now, I'm back to normal with our heat on and I MUST get our ye' old humidifier and probably buy an additional one. I must say that I did the clean living thing while there, no smoking, no drinking, healthy eating (well as much as possible). I do those routinely now--so basically no change on my part.
I am not a millionaire, but spent only a couple of hundred bucks for food and gambling.

      Lucy,

I'm really glad you had a nice time there and experienced good eye "days". That's really great. I do know the gamble of investing in a trip where you may or may not enjoy yourself like you should due to DES. I've always considered Vegas one of the riskier adventures with dry eye. Friends of ours asked us to go last spring, but I had decided that due to my eye problems we'd stick to our plan to go to the beach.

      Thanks for the good news.

Diana, my first trip to Vegas after Lasik was at the 6 week mark. I had no idea......and the worst had not started yet.

I swear the stars were aligned just right this time. I felt better than usual. No, I'm not moving to AZ, but it added to a really nice trip. A benefit I didn't expect. I've also been on a steroid drop for a month or so and starting Restasis again. My eyes were of little trouble for that 4 days---out of 8 years. I had a good time and my eyes were of little distraction.

You can save Vegas trips when your young uns are older.

Lucy, I'm happy to hear that you had a good experience. Are you having a better time in general since the debridement?

Thanks for keeping us posted on your progress.

Liz, I did not think that I'd had an improvement since debridement. However, I have also taken steroid drops and am (again) starting Restasis. The eyes feeling good on my trip seemed to be just an oddity. However, I am hoping things will stay a little moist from the new drop regime.

Thanks for the reply, Lucy. I hope that you have more "oddities" like that one!

                        Good Trip

                        Hi Lucy,
I'm new here, so I don't know your history, but I was interested in your "good eye trip" to Vegas. I have been happily surprised to find my eyes better in Nevada and Arizona which are much drier states than my home in CA. It makes no sense to me. I was wondering if the air quality was better there, and maybe that was the difference. I'm curious if anyone else has had a similiar experience.
