Since my Panoptyx Scirroco's keep fogging up, I figured I'd roll the dice and just order the Wiley-X SG1's off of ebay for $65. I don't know how they will fit, so it's obviously a bit of a gamble, but since my Panoptyx Scirocco's have been a bust (due to fogging and peripheral vision obstruction), I felt like trying the Wiley X made some sense. If they don't work, I'll just put them alongside all of the drops and Panoptyx that I have tried that have failed.

Here's the descripton of the Wiley-X ... "This set comes complete with all accessories, which include: 1 SG-1 frames with removeable temples, 1 set of SG-1 POLARIZED lenses, 1 set of clear SG 1 lenses, 1 elastic goggle strap, 1 neck strap, and carrying case. These glasses are brand new, genuine Wiley X and have never been worn."

      thx dotanne
but still it is a bit hard to take off the removable facial cavity.....
i'm a bit anxious dat it might break...u kno, its holder(holder on the glass) is very thin...and it might break up...

so i decided that the safest way is to unscrew the screw ...and then take it off...

do u wash the facial? i mean, it seems to absorb transpiration and all dat stuff...

the ink model is really a bit small for my face..but ...prevention is better than cure and prevention is even better over looking at beauty concern, so i'll continue to wear it i guess

yeah i found it is very very helpful to me in windy situation and in car, and can more comfortably stand the air con....in fact i feel it blocks 90% of the winds and dust !

i wonder if it is ethical to wear it during work?....

and YA GOTTA, hmm me too i was interested in SG1...but it resemble too much like a google....so i prefer more.....wearable and "okey" looking stuff ...
but nevertheless it is interesting the SG1...give it a try!!! coz wileyx DONT have fogging for me....
If I have to choose between being happy and sad, I''ll choose being happy....... and you?... so.... stop choosing being unhappy (yeah its hard but....)....stop depressing........ live!!!

I got my Wiley-X SG-1's about a week ago. The SG-1's work very well for me when driving (good peripheral vision and little/no fogging). My Panoptyx Scirocco's always fogged up in the car.

Interestingly, I have found that the Wiley-X's fog up a lot more in the house and the Panoptyx don't seem to fog up much in the house. I'm wearing the Panoptyx now. Go figure.

Also, I just ordered the Wiley X XL-1's from ebay for $40. The XL-1's look a lot less like goggles and more like sunglasses (unlike the SG-1's). I figure the XL-1's may be a good option (if they fit well) for outdoor/sunglass use, the SG-1's with clear lens can be a good night time driving option, and the Panoptyx Scirocco's can be my home option.

Now if I can just find some functional and decent looking glasses/goggles for the office, I may get at least a little more of my quality of life back.

I will note that the Wiley's and Panoptyx goggles don't make me feel "normal", but they help me be a lot more "functional" and I can go longer without drops.

What is frequently left (even with the goggles) is the "aching" pain in my eyes and head region. Without the goggles, I have dry eye pain/irritation in addition to the aching/headache pain.

Every person's dry eye is different. Some are mild some severe. Some are aqueous deficient, some oil deficient, some both. Some have signs and no symptoms and some are the opposite. Some live in cold, dry climates in winter and others in warm, humid climates. Some can be in the house without goggles/mc glasses and some cannot. Some can still read and watch TV with dry eye and some cannot ... you see where I'm going with this

What you describe is the classic battle of vanity versus functionality/comfort/less pain. I certainly face the same battle since our society tends to focus on things that make people "different".

Having said this, my DE symptoms affect me enough where I am willing to look different to at least a certain degree if it means that I can feel more "normal". I'm trying to find the right balance/plan as described in my previous post (i.e. panoptyx at home since my family is certainly okay with me being different, wiley-x sg-1 with clear lens at night for driving since they are definitely not the coolest looking things (unless you have a part in the "Matrix" movies ), hopefully the wiley xl-1 for daytime sunglass/driving since they have more of a sunglass look, and finally I will continue investigating custom made moisture chamber glasses for indoor/office use.

As just one very small example of how DE has impacted me, I haven't gone to see a movie in 7+ months due to my dry eyes. I'm pretty sure that I can make it through a movie with the proper drops/maintenance, but it's just not worth it for me since I have always gone to movies to relax/enjoy, not feel constant pain/irritation.

I'm pretty confident that the right pair of glasses/goggles would allow me to go see a movie again with relative comfort. Also, the cool thing about movie theatres is that they are dark so our goggle secret is relatively safe .

If I continue feeling significantly better with goggles/glasses, then I will definitely choose to "come out of the closet" and look "different" and feel "normal" rather than look "normal" and feel "different".

The reality is that trying to look like everybody else is actually quite boring anyway. I have always thought of myself as being different on the inside, so what's wrong with wearing something different on the outside? Is that a crime? If so, then I say let's be guilty as charged .

Of course, we need to be comfortable and be able to maintain our self-esteem when we look in the mirror, but I believe there are lots of options out there that are worth investigating. You just have to be willing to be a little different. Best. YGB

There is no UK dealer listed on the Panoptx website. You could take a guess at the fit and order them from the US, but that's always a risk when you can't try them on first. If you want to check out some good protective eyewear alternatives, you might go to a Harley Davidson dealership or a really good sports optical store and see if they have something similar.

Whoops, just realized you were probably talking about Wiley-X. It doesn't look like they have any non US dealer look-up on their site but you can contact them using this link: http://www.wileyx.com/company/contact.aspx

You can also buy Wiley-X on eBay from sellers that ship worldwide. Here's one example below ...

                    wileyx vs. panoptx

I have both, and the Wiley X doesn't fit as close to my face. I don't know if a different style would have been better fitting. They are big, and let me have much better peripheral vision. And, they are a nice change because the foam feels different, and they are all a bit irritating, so I get irritated in different ways The Wiley X does come with removable arms and you can put on the elastic piece instead so they are like real goggles. I got them for horse back riding so I wouldn't have to push them up my nose. I just got a pair of nonprescription light lens Panoptx from a motorcycle parts salesman on e-bay. They are great for reading, as I am nearsighted and don't need glasses for reading. I seemed to be in a slight bidding war with someone else (another DES sufferer, I figured) but they were still $60. If I could only buy one pair, it would be the Panoptx, because I seem to need a close fit and no vents.
Even when I wear my glasses constantly, and I start to feel a little tear dampness in my eyes, they still hurt just as much. Has anyone had the experience of their pain decreasing from wearing the goggles, and for how long did you have to wear them for that to happen?
                    Thanks,
                    Elaine

'Underneath us, lies a Soldier and whatever deep is the fall...we'll still stand up and fight... '

i quite like this signiture, Mikastef . i actually often remind me to stand up and fight, otherwise with this des pain, i would easily feel depressed, wasting my time n not taking good care of myself.
