Just returned from a conference where this issue was discussed but in a much more clinical way. Three issues were discussed that cause eye estrain which can cause headaches and photosensitivity.

Vision Blurr-Caused in try eye patients as tear film is disrupted from rapid evaporation or too little aqueous.
Aberrations-Causes are varied but usually affect the distribution of light over a small angular distance. This can cause distortion on the retinal image.
Light scatter-This a result of dry eyes. This causes symmetric and wide angle distribution of light. This affects quality of retina image and quality of vision.

So Dry eye is responsible for two + (not all aberrations are related to tear film and cornea) of the causes of visual distortion. The good news there is a device that can measure the Scatter as it relates to dry eyes and theoretically could measure improvement based on treatment. I am doing research now to see when this product will be approved by the FDA for use in America. This intial research was performed in Spain.

Indrep, thanks for this information. You area wonderful source of help for people on this board. Please let us know about the FDA approval, although we know it might be a long time. Those things usually are. Lucy

The good news its a diagnostic instrument and not a drug so it shouldn't take more than a year if they just started.

          Great to see this thread!

On the NoIR glasses, about how much are they? The prices are not currently included on any of the models (price list page says to call). And about how long does it take to get them in from the date ordered?

          Thanks so much!
They're about 25-70$, depending on the colour lens you're buying as well as the frame. You can usually wrangle a fair discount when you're calling instead of taking the initial quoted price.

I've always gotten them within about a week and a half from ordering.. considering the fact that six of it is days in transit, that's pretty good.

Sorry re: this very delayed response, but y'all may be interested in this fluoresent blog (exerpted from businessweek) and computer-pain survey.
It's part of an amateur site i made long ago:
            http://www.freewebs.com/eclectives/survey.htm

BTW it's NOT JUST fluresent, but BRIGHT LIGHTS in general.
            Here's how i know:
Long ago, I tried many many things, including "so called" radiation free monitor, as well as a tiny monitor with tiny incandescent light bulb built in.

The latter was fluresent free and looked like a fish tank somewhat, since it was see-thru from front to back. Really weird.

I returned both of them, because they BOTH caused me the usual computer symptoms. It was a waste of time, and b.s.

            also: regarding glasses:

I tried both SolarShield and Amber Glasses (sorta a rusty maroon color).
Both prescribed to my dad by opthamologist, after cataract surgery.

The amber glasses were sorta wraparound.

None of these really helped me vs. computer.

I already have a floater, and afraid I'm headed toward AMD, since both my dad & aunt have macular. I'm terrified, due to overexposure to computer and associated premature aging.

Has anyone here tried Naturalux fluresent covers? Not that they protect against the high pressure of gaseous mercury in CFL bulbs, nor do they protect from EMFs. As far as i know.

I do know that coffee/caffeine (including sweetener as humectant - and including ibuprofen/aspirin) helps me to a degree, due to its anti-inflammatoriness. Interestingly, cherry concentrate is also great for me, BUT NOT for my headaches.

Though cherry is anti-inflammatory & diuretic AND HEALING for me, as is yogurt, yogurt & more yogurt. NOT acidopholus, NOT immunocal. Emphasis: yogurt, yogurt & more yogurt.

If i were to name my top healing foods, they'd include yogurt, black cherry/raspberry (any form, including tea or concentrate), Yams, Barley Grass, Elderberry, Flax-oil, eggs, water. Stuff like that. I'd include coffee in the list, if it weren't so politically incorrect to dare to name coffee a "top-healing-food"!

              glasses that help me

I also have a problem with fluorescent lights and computer screens. I have Synereyes contacts and they definitely help with fluorescents but as I have posted previously I have problems keeping them clean. I wear them only as needed. I also have a pair of Wiley X frames (moisture chamber type) with peachy beige lenses that are helpful at the computer and also make tv watching more comfortable. These lenses are not Wiley lenses. You can see them at www.visionarysupplies.com/night driving. These glasses help but they won't make your vision normal.

Those Wileys wouldn't help me, as I know from trying both my Dad's amber glasses and my mom's which looked very similar in color to the Wiley's (i.e. the pic here: http://www.vssunglasses.com/nightdriving.htm looks bright yellow.
Both the amber & yellow were tried on the computer, and they didn't help me. In fact, the yellow color ones really were PAINFUL to my photosensitive eyes.
