  • Eyeseals (again)

I just got my pair and tried them last night (the clear one).

I really liked them. First off the strap while not particularly polished looking is definitely a lot better at holding it on. It has elastic, which helps a lot. Then, the design is such that you don't have any potential for the edges of the silicone to dig into your skin (as the quartz/onyix can do for some people). It's all flattened out spread across the skin. Cool and smooth, nothing irritating at all.

They fit ME pretty much perfectly. I'll be interested to hear how the fit works for others.

The only practical trouble I had with them was hair! There's a top flap thing that sticks way up. You need both hands to put it on so it's a little bit tricky doing that while trying to hold your bangs out of the way. Once I got it in place it was OK.

When I took them off in the morning, they were steamed up and had lots of water droplets. My quartz do that too, but there was a lot more on this one. It really does form a much better seal than the quartz, so if you're looking for something that does NOT have foam but will really seal you in, this will do it.

As far as efficacy goes... I'm in kind of a hard place to judge right now. My left eye was still really bad in the morning but it's in a state right now where practically nothing works at all so I did not expect any improvement. My right eye felt about like it does when I wear Quartz, maybe a little better. I'll know more when I've been using it longer. I'm definitely motivated to keep using this rather than the Quartz.

It's always a good idea to show your doctor any night gear like this that you're using, but I think even more important with this kind of thing that's relatively airtight. If you have any low grade infection or other complicated things going on, should probably get a nod from the doctor before attempting to use IMO.

Thanks for the personal review Rebecca! This sounds encouraging, and better than I had hoped, especially the part about no edges digging into the skin. Please follow-up after you have had the chance to wear it a little longer.

Rebecca, would it be possible to sleep on your side wearing the eyeseals?

Received these yesterday (thanks Rebecca) and tried them out last night for the first time. First impression - love it. Seals well and would seem to do so for most face shapes, eye sizes. My eyes are really large, and they just fit around them, with the only issue being that my long eyelashes smash up against them a bit. In my opinion, this is much more comfortable than TranquilEyes were, certainly less bulky, and the elastic strap worked well, as evidenced by the mask staying in place all night. I think this may really help a lot of people who have lagophthalmos. I bought the clear one, but I think the opaque black one might be nice too. In any case, it's certainly worth a shot for those "on the fence".

bunnyrabbit123: Yes, it is possible to sleep on your side and wear these. I did at several points last night, they were comfortable enough for me, and I awoke on my side, head on the pillow, with them still in place (and a good deal of condensation within the eye cups).

Hey MGD666, great. Good to know about lashes - I've been wondering about details like that - can't know this stuff till a lot of people try it and post comments

I posted a more detailed comparison with Quartz here
          http://www.dryeyeshop.com/new-eyeseals-clear-p545.aspx

I suspect I will often still default to Quartz simply because it's easier to clean and I'm lazy!

I sleep on my side about half the time. Thus far, I consider Eyeseals better than both Quartz and Tranquileyes for side sleepers. No bulk, can't get pushed off, no marks on the face.

            Hi Rebecca,
Off the subject a tad. I received the 3 glasses from 7 eye to tryout for 10 days. The new Ziena Oasis with the silicone for dry eye and I tried a Leveche. Neither one fit my face properly. I do not feel like I have an abnormally small face, but the lips of the silicone just floped over at the top of the frame as I wore them, Letting in all the air. I was very disappointed. I am sure they are great for a person that it fits nicely, just not me. Do you have any other ideas? I tried to inbox you but your box is full and would not allow me to send it. Sorry to interrupt this thread.

This is really encouraging news, thanks Rebecca & MGD666 for the reviews. I also have both the Onyix goggles and the Tranquileyes goggles and haven't had much luck with either. I'm a side sleeper and the Onyix left me with huge indentations that would last the entire day almost, could not use them at all on days I had to go to work.
The Tranquileyes were not as comfortable and bothered me more with the pads, If I use them I use them with the pads out now. I've been told I have nocturnal lagopthalmos but using these shields and all kinds of night gels and ointments have not helped at all.
All the specialists I see have suggested night ointments like PolyVisc, Vita Pos and Refresh night time but my eyes are quite sore when I wake up even though the ointments feels ok when 1st applied. Genteal Gel has been the best so far but I've been recommended to use the ointments instead because its preservative free.
So to wrap things up, what night time drops do you use in conjunction with night time shield, any other tips also for nightime routines.

I have Posterior Bleph, MGD, Occular Rosacea, Lagopthamlmos and Keratoconus.

                Hi,
Have never tried PolyVisc, VitaPos, Muro 128, or Celluvisc so can't speak about any of those. Have tried Refresh PM, Genteal Ointment, and the Systane PM.
I feel the ointments (the ones essentially like vaseline) are not for me. The only one I still use with any regularity is Genteal Severe Dry Eye Gel, and have used that several times thus far - when my eyes are particularly dry - while wearing the eyeseals overnight. I may give Fresh Kote another try though to use in conjunction with these. Ill be eager to hear how you like the Eyeseals if you get them.

Rats, that's too bad. The Ziena is pretty big though - fit is an issue for a lot of people. You might want to try one of the smaller Zienas when they come? (Latest estimated timing is October...) I tried on prototypes last week and liked both of them.

Leveche is pretty big too. Fits me perfectly, in fact it's my current favorite frame when I don't want foam making me sweat but then I have a big round face.

Did you try any of the ones with the deep foam eyecups?

For indoor-type eyewear I *think* they're still making the micro-environment glasses even though they've taken the old website down... if you google micro-environment glasses you should find Dr. Yee's site & could call them. The seal is not right to the skin (really no seals except the foam ones and custom ones are) but they work quite well.

Thank you Rebecca, maybe I will wait for the new smaller Zienas. Thanks again!

The only pair that fits my face well is the Wiley-X Gravity. And believe me, I tried on ALOT of frames I also just got the 7 eye ziena verona as a sunglass. it is not a tight fit at all, but good enough for when I don't want to look like I am in a scene from the Matrix!

I don't suppose you'd post a picture of you wearing them? Or anyone wearing them? I've been using plastic wrap, which is nice, as a stomach sleeper, but not always practical to travel with due to scissors and TSA regulations for carry ons...
