Hi Sphie: I found this video that someone else had posted. I think that is the 'scraping' procedure and it doesn't look too bad.

Just go with the flow. I am sure that the 'scratching' is tolerable and you will have worried for nothing. I would be looking forward to doing whatever he has to offer.

I understand why you are worried about what the rest of your life has to hold for you I have the same concerns. I think you arrived at this place at a good time though because, truthfully, had this happened 10 years ago none of these treatments were available at that time and by now you would have probably given up looking and would never improve, only get worse. Now you are going to baby your eyes and keep what you have, knowledge is power.

Did you check out that blog report on the plasma injections that were reviving the old atrophied glands...isn't that exciting I think that will be the wave of the future and to me it is promising.

    Hi Sophie,
    Thanks for sharing.
From what I've seen you still have a lot of glands alive, so hope after the treatment they will growth. Now we know that it is possible.
Doctor haven't taken picture of the upper lids.

Cleaning: I wonder how to remove the clog manually, maybe manually expressing with a tweezers?

    Hi Sophie
Glad to hear. You are so lucky to find this dr who seems serious about his professional (& reputation?) - to get results.

Cleaning: I guess it refers to BlephEx or debridement?
Dr Korb, inventor of LipiFlow mentioned debridement can improve about 21% of symptoms, according to their studies.

    Dont think too much!!

I've been using Lotemax. Since I have the flu, amazingly I don't have dry eye now! Yeshhh... so I haven't use any eye drops.

So this next tuesday he will do a cleaning on my glands, he says that lipiflow will 100% fail if he doesn't remove the clog in my glands first. I can't remember the name he mentioned, this cleaning has a name...
he will also use the Meibomian Gland Evaluator to let me know which glands are working.
After this he will let me know if he thinks this is enough and my eyes will produce enough oil, or if he will need to proceed with the lipiflow.

I am soooo scared. For one cause I don't know how he's going to clean my eyelids, the nurse told me it's like scratching the waterline (she says it's not scratching but that's the only word she could find) so I might have inflammation afterwords.
I am also scared to know I have something this chronic and this serious going on in my life and I'm only 26.. dear god what's gonna happen when I'm 80?

I say go ahead and trust him if he is that good. Probably he didn't mention IPL because he is not equipped to do it that is another whole investment. High eye pressure can come from steroid use for one thing, it is related to glaucoma. Now don't go worrying more cause if you had it he would have told you but it is something that needs to be watched.

I wonder why your eye pressure would be high, if thats what the doctor was referring to. I think there are many people on here whose glands have dropped out who feel better. I'm sure some of mine have to but I have never had the test. Lipiflow is very expensive but may be worth trying. It didn't help me BUT mine is due to rosacea so really mostly diet and doxy have helped..

Before spending a lot of money on Lipiflow, I would ask your doctor if you have scar tissue first. If he doesn't know, I would seek a second opinion from someone who knows how to spot it.

I say this because I had Lipiflow done before I knew anything about scar tissue. Lipiflow didn't help me then because the scar tissue was blocking the glands. After having probing to clear the scar tissue, treatments like Lipiflow and IPL became effective.

I would also go for either LipiFlow or IPL and then do regular warm compresses.

Eye Presion: Maybe she meant Eye pressure?

And btw he didn’t mentioned IPL, he says I’m a good candidate for lipiflow

Thanks for sharing Sophie. Seems you are on the good hand.
I also think to clean first prior to LipiFlow is very important - for better results.

Make-up: I can not agree with your doctor more. hahaha!!

Eye Presion: What does it mean? never heard of it?

Thank you all. I think I’m gonna do it. I’ll use my credit card or something but I have to do it! First he will do like a cleaning he said, aparrently he knows a lot of patients still suffer after lipiflow because the doctor doesn’t clean the waterline. He says everything needs to be clean in order for the oil to come out nicely.

I cried íes when I saw the pictures. He told me he’s so passionate about dry eye because he has it too. He mentioned (to make me feel better) that he doesn’t have any glands left, so he was really bumped when he saw his Meibography too.

He scared me too cause he said I might have a autoimmune disease that is causing this, I do have mild hypothyroidism but he really doesn’t think that’s the issue. He’s worried cause I’m super young and he thinks my glands are dying super fast. I’ll get this cleaning done next Tuesday and after that he will let me know if lipiflow will need to be done.

Cayse he he saw me crying he told me he will give me a discount haha

if anyone lives near Virginia and would like to visit this doctor please let me know I can post his info. He says he has people from Colorado visiting him cause he’s one of the best doctors! And I believe him he looked at my eyes so throughly!

He also mentioned my eye presion was really high. Gosh I don’t even want to know what it means.

But there’s definitely something going on in my body.

When I asked if I would ever be able to wear makeup again he laughed and was like: girl that’s the smallest problem you have here don’t even think about that now!

Even though there is obvious drop out, there’s still plenty of glands there, so all is not lost
