My optho put me on minocycline and told me to take it for 3 months to clear up my meibomitis. After 2 weeks of being on it, I broke out in hives really bad. I didn't like the idea of taking anti biotics for that long in the first place because I like to deal with things holistically. My optho told me to stop taking mino and gave me blephamide which really doesn't work for me. He explained that it is actually possible to get rid of meibomitis by doing warm compresses and lid scrubs. If that is true, why are so many people on anti biotics for MGD? I have a pretty severe case and I have been doing the lid scrubs and compresses for about 2 months now and I still don't see a change. I am hesitant about trying Doxy because the allergic reaction to the Mino was pretty bad. I have also heard very bad things about the health risks.
So, my questions are:
Because I am allergic to Mino, does that mean I will be allergic to Doxy?
Has anyone actually cleared up meibomitis without the use of anti biotics?
If yes, how long did it take you?
Are there any other holistic ways of treating MGD besides lid scrubs, compresses, lubricant, and Flaxseed oil? I have been doing all of the above for so long and still no changes. In fact, I think it's gotten worse.
Thank you very much for any input!
