  • First Magazine: Fennel seeds

The First for Women magazine on stands now - the July 9, 2007 issue - has a quick blurb about fennel seeds for dry eye. I haven't tried it but it caught my eye because I have four books that I frequently reference by Dr. Jame F. Balch, the contributor of the tip. I wish I could just give a link or copy and paste the info but it's not on the web that I could find. So I'll type it as it appears in the magazine, please forgive my poor typing.

" The ozone gas formed by air pollution and heat affects eye tissue, causing a dry, tired feeling. The fix: fennel. "Anti-inflammatories like camphor and bergapten in this spice ease tissue irritation," says James F. Balch, M.D., coauthor of Prescription for Natural Cures (Wiley, 2004). Simply pour 1 cup boiling water over 1 tsp. fennel seeds. Steep 20 minutes; strain and cool. Soak a cloth in the tea; apply to closed eyes for 5 minutes daily."

I haven't tried this yet but probably will because stuff like this is right up my alley .

Heh, heh, you and your fixes. Actually, this sounds kind of interesting. Since I like tea......and even I can "cook this up" ll go buy some fennel seeds. So, we'll both be able to report back on this. I'm going to try a cup to drink, of course while I'm doing all this cooking stuff. Maybe a shot of bourbon added to the fennel tea? How about you, Cin?

      fennel

Let me know how it goes down and if it changes your life, ladies! I've been drinking green tea as of late. I kinda like it, but can't say if it's helping my eyes any...

Maybe my typing skills are worse than I thought. You're not supposed to drink the tea. You're supposed to soak a cloth in it and place the cloth over your eyes.

I just can't let you drink it, Luce. I admit I chuckled a bit at the thought of it and of just how hilarious your follow-up post would have been, but you're just too good of a friend and I can't let you do it, bourbon or not.

          fennel seeds

Those little Indan candies that look and taste like miniature Good 'N' Plenty come mixed with fennel seeds and they are delicious. Instead of tea and compresses, let's research the fennel and candy mix!!
