Okay, I have story that may even top Inescape's.
I see the top LA opthamologist (he's the one featured weekly on "Extreme Makeover...does almost all their lasik work and has thank you notes posted all over his office from top stars like Cindy Crawford, Denise Richards, etc...).
He tours and teaches all over the world. I'm in there every week, sometimes 2-3 times a week, because they consider me a case study. "We haven't seen eyes quite this bad before, etc..etc..."
Let me clarify quickly though, he did NOT do my surgery. I actually had the surgery done by another doctor as part of a reality makeover TV show (I know, I know...I never mentioned that before...and you guys wonder why I tear myself up with guilt ever day!?)
Anyway, my point is...this high-flutin Dr. has never even heard of Dr. Holly, Dwelle, or Dakrina! Isn't that just insane? I had to give him this website and the information for him to look it up!
I'm sorry...how in the hell am I supposed to be normal again if even the top docs aren't willing to research and try new and improved methods?

Understand where you're coming from but to clarify as well as to be fair to the doctor, these products haven't been available commercially for many years. Even for insurance considerations alone, most doctors would, quite rightly, be cautious about recommending any products (even over the counter) that are not at least manufactured - and hopefully distributed - by the types of facilities that normal pharmaceuticals are. And it is precisely to make these drops more widely available and more palateable to treating ophthalmologists and optometrists that we have taken them up and arranged for new manufacturing.

I have also discussed Dr. Holly's drops with supposed "dry eye specialists". One doc misheard the name "Holly" for the name of a LASIK surgeon in town here. He was all excited until I set him straight. I did not peak his interest in the drops apparently, and he didn't ask for the details. He was too busy handing out Lacriserts.

I HATED the Lacrisert I had in my eye, incidentally. Anybody else? I will say I would love to see a slow dissolving disk containing Dr. Holly's formulations some day for nighttime use.

At any rate, I must say Kyle your story gets more and more interesting every day. My life is really boring. It's a good life, but in comparison to yours rather dull. Ohioans get excited about local celebs like radio personalities. It's not much, but it's what we have.

I did not like Lacriserts either. They sort of melted into a blob of jello in the eye and then floated around like a BIG floater.

Most older doctors know of Dr. Holly's work. I've been to several ophths around the state and country and most of them know of Dr. Holly's background. Some are surprised to hear the drops have been "revived." A couple of consult docs had another patient on Dr. Holly's drops.

Oh, Kyle, I just read your post now, after writing the above. I'm sure you do feel bad.

This Beverly Hills Doc doesn't have to care or be knowledgable about Dr. Holly because he has more important stuff to be concerned with.

No, I never had a problem with my contacts prior to the surgery. I've worn contacts and glasses basically all my life and never had any issues. I think, like I have said previously, that is why I am having such a difficult time dealing with this. I feel I was pressured into having it done for the show and, in fact, have several e-mails going back and forth between them where they are assuring me that nothing can go wrong. Ha! I know I'm a grown adult and it was ultimately my own decision, but I still just can't stop kicking myself.

Yes, my life is/was exciting. I've had to put a lot of things on hold because of this health crisis. Things that used to seem important...just aren't anymore.

Lucy, I'm guessing that your comment about the LA doctor was supposed to be sarcastic. I know he does surgery on big names and all...but I still think the fact that I am in misery daily should take precedent over the fact that they have money. Education, in his business, should be a priority!

Kyle, I was being sarcastic. Sometimes it helps take the edge off.

Of course you should be your dr's first priority, or at least one of the top priorities.

Be sure and keep the emails you have from show producers, doctors, and anything that proves what happened. Just start a file now, in case you need the info down the line. I have letters from drs back to 2001 in my personal file.

Well, Kyle, it's very, very interesting that you were not lens intolerant. That certainly makes this whole thing even more unfortunate for you.

Regardless of that, please if you can, unload your guilt about having had the surgery. In this situation, it's simply not productive and not healthly. My guilt over this surgery really tore me up in the beginning. Now I'd say I've channeled that energy somehow, and have been keeping myself active in finding solutions instead.

Kyle, you were talked into this surgery just as I was. I actually went to see my "second opinion" prior to surgery and was quite sure I wouldn't have it done. I was "chickening out". During the screening, I was definitely "talked into" the surgery by my surgeon and his staff. It was easily done. After all, I was looking for reasons to have the surgery, and not looking to walk away from it. My own eye doctor had a big hand in talking me into it also.

So, for what it's worth, you're not alone. We all had different motives for having had the surgery...but we still did it. We had a handicap we were trying to fix.

Quit dwelling on the the guilt, and say a few prayers instead. You'll be surprised how good it'll make you feel.

Thank you Diana..and you are so right. For whatever reasons we are all here in the same place...an unfortunate place, but, regardless, the same place. We can dwell in the self-pity part or we can choose to move on. After 2 months, I did choose to move on. I, like you, would love to be able to find a solution for all of us. I know this can only be done by actively pursuing answers and I would love to be a part of helping to find that answer for all of us. I actually had a brain storming session with some of my friends tonight and I'm going to try an extremely "out of the box" idea. Kind of far-fetched, but we'll see where that leads me. I'll keep you posted!
And yes, trust me, I rely on my faith every single day to help me get through this. Don't know where I'd be without that.
