  • Will having punctal plugs in affect the accuracy of the Schirmer test?

I never had the Schirmer test until after I had my lower lids plugged so I was wondering if plugs can effect the test? At the time my doctor said plugs won't effect it but I know that when it comes to dry eyes for every doctor who say's one thing there will be another doctor who says the complete opposite and it doesn't sound right to me that plugs would have no effect at all. Does anyone know for sure whether the plugs do or don't effect the Schirmer test? And if so how will the plugs effect it?
    Thanks

    it shouldn't, and that's logical.

the plugs are a drain-stop, so to speak.

The schirmer's test's how many tears your lacrimal gland produces in a set duration of time.

they are placed up higher and near the "drop spot" for your lacrimal gland.

i wouldn't think plugs would skew the reading in either way.
