I didn't want to start another thread, but thought this was important.
From 1997 until present time and probably beyond ~ off and on I've had nothing but eye trouble and it started with a Dr. taking pictures of my eyes 2-27-97 (never will forget that date ) and I had not a clue as to what was going on (the door had laser written on it). So when I called the office the next day the Dr. laughed at me when I told her whatever she had done with the laser bright lights had ruined my eyes. They didn't tell me that they took pictures until I kept calling and calling because my eyes hurt and they were well ~ like looking through a transparent static T.V. channel that had gone off because of a storm or something. That part has stayed with me all these years (transparent static screen that I look through). It also triggered gray-outs. It took me going to tons of specialist's all over the place for nearly a year ~ Nashville (I saw the meanest/roughest Dr. at Vanderbilt), Knoxville, Atlanta, NY, after exhausting all my options here in Chattanooga. Finally I found a wonderful neurologist who sent me to another specialist optho-neurologist who in turn gave me meds to stop the gray-outs (just hope it works this time around). Other diagnosis is retinal migraine, photophobia and loss of contrast. Six years later I was diagnosed with severe dry eye syndrome. Went to numerous Dr.'s for this too before I was diagnosed with dry eye (because I kept having recurring pink-eye). The SmartPlugs were put in and I wish I could turn back time and not have those things put in; as they both ended up getting infected at different times (one last year and the other just a few weeks ago).
This is what I sat down and wrote out for the new Dr. tomorrow:
About 4 weeks ago my left SmartPlug got infected ~ Dr. Squeezed it out along with an eyelash.
Then about a week later I had an allergic reaction to lotion or something I wasn’t sure what ~ my eyes were so red and irritated.
Went to Dr. put me on Mild Pred drops for a week.
Kept using my Refresh Tears (I used those for 5 years) and my eyes were still really red and went back to Dr. and I was told I have an allergy to the Refresh Tears and to use non-preservative drops.
So I bought Refresh Tears non-preservatives in the little vials. Those non-preservatives did okay for a about a week and then my right eye around the Iris (?) (brown circle) started burning like fire/like it was being cut and it only happened at night mostly and after that I only used those for 2 more days
then had to go back to the Dr. (that was last Thursday) because my right eye in the mornings (for two mornings) had like a black shadow that would come across the front of it. So I used Sulfacetamide Sodium & Pedinisolone Sodium & phosphate ophl 10%- by Bausch & Lomb the first two mornings this happened. My right eye just kept hurting in the front really bad.
Dr. wanted to dilate my eyes, only the right one was dilated. Said optic nerve & macula ~ looked really good) and was told to stay off all eye drops and use cold compresses. Only thing is the dilated eye solution was only supposed to last an hour and it lasted 8 hours. My eye has never been the same. My gray-outs came back (seen an optho-neurologist for that back in 1998 when the same thing happened (unfortunately I didn’t remember until the gray-outs came back) and he put me on a vasoconstrictor which stopped the gray-outs). Not only are my gray-puts back, but also my eye has double vision now and everything looks really white (maybe fuzzy and it looks white). My floater in my right now doesn't come and go like it used to ~ it now stays (still floats), but has a string looking addition onto it.
Friday, Saturday I kept putting cold compresses, Sunday woke with eyes extremely red and goopy (lots of goop).
Monday A.M. called doctor to see about what to do & left message with the nurse who said it’s probably pink eye and I told her my chemicals I’m allergic to (neomycin and propylene glycol) and she said okay… but I never got a call back ~ by this time my eyes were itching out of their sockets and I bought over the counter pink eye drops(Similasan's ).
Tuesday she called in RX, but I was allergic so I couldn’t get it.
Only used OTC pink eye drops until Tuesday evening because my right eye started hurting worse and has gotten fuzzier/blurry. The front of my right eye is still extremely painful.
So this is where I am now.
Thank you so much Melissa, Liz, Teri and Dave for all your suggestions and help
I will update after tomorrow's appointment. Just pray I don't lose my eyesight in my right eye (I'm really scared). I've just had so so many horrible Dr. appointments, but then I understand you have to keep searching until you find the one that can finally help.
I am truly happy I found this site. I wish everyone in here the very best of luck in searching for relief. Mine is not near as bad as lots in here and my heart just breaks that people have to suffer so much.
