  • Eye Condition - Please Read... Thanks.

Hello all, My name is James and i have been suffering with an eye condition for years now and i need a cure desperately.

This may take a while to read so i will break it down the best i can.

Symptoms: My eyes are always irritated, they feel bone dry so i would assume i have 'Dry Eyes'(I used to spend nearly all day and night playing games on my computer), they sting and water outside, i get a little bit of comfort after i yawn but only for a few seconds.

    Diagnosis's:
An optician said my Meibomian Glands were a little clogged and suggested that i buy a MGD (Meibomian Gland Dysfunction) bag (Heatable warm compress). I used it 4 times a day for 1 month and massaged the oil into my eyes, my eyes were fairly comfortable for a short period of time after having massaged the eye lids, once the oil evaporated my eyes were back to feeling dry and irritated.

An ophthalmologist diagnosed me and said i had allergies and prescribed me with Dexamethasone Anti-inflammatory eye drops and Opatanol Allergy eye drops. The only thing the Dexamethasone eye drops did was stopped my eyes from watering out in the wind as much, as for the Opatanol, nothing.
Yesterday i had another appointment, she said i had symptoms of dry eyes and then prescribed me some tear substitute eye drops, and also said that theres nothing she can do about my problem which wasn't exactly what i wanted to hear.

An allergy specialist confirmed that i was allergic to house dust mites and tree pollen and also said i was a very reactive person(I used to build computers, so i would assume i got the dust allergy from that).

    Things i have tried:

    Murine Dry eye drops
    Optrex Eye Spray
    Viscotears Artificial Tears
    Systane Eye Drops
    MGD Warm Compress
    Optrex Dry eye drops
    Lacrilube eye ointment
    Celluvisc tear substitute eye drops

And many more which i cannot remember the names of.

None of which worked, all of the eye drops after applied to my eyes evaporated within seconds!

If you require anymore information i will gladly give it to you.

    Please help, thanks.

Dude, I'm not the most experienced user of this forum, but I'll tell my story to see if it helps a little.

I did LASIK surgery in 2007. Until then, all wonder, were without glasses and seeing well. Until early in 2008 my eyes started to bother me. I started to go after ophthalmologists. They said it was only through eye drops and ready.

I had to go through six ophthalmologists to diagnose me as someone suffering from dry eye.

In the middle of 2009 I found a competent ophthalmologist who prescribed me restasys.
End of 2009 met this forum.
In 2010 I met an eye doctor who finally diagnosed that I have MGD.

Since then I have been gathering information about treatments.

The big problem of dry eye is that it has MANY causes. Since LASIK, Rosacea, Sjogren, allergies, and others that I don´t know...
And also need to know what component of your tears is impaired. Water, oil or mucin.

I got so much time reading the forum without reading the main page of the site. There are many essential information so that you understand what's being discussed here. If you have not read, I think is a good start.

What tests have you done? Schirmer has done? Do you know the time of rupture of the tear film? Someone assessed their meibomian glands?

I think it is essential to begin to seek treatment.

Do not know if I helped. But it's there.

When I was at my worst, I was using restasis 3 times a day and wearing lacriserts which I feel helped me tremendously to rebuild my tear film. I wore them for several months and then was able to wean myself off of them and the restasis entirely. I believe these two things helped the most out of everything I did.....

      Best wishes,
      Melissa

I, too, became zapped by computer fluresence.

As an aside, it's known that many people get cured of stuff by living in a balmy area such as the Caribbean, with balmy sea winds blowing. But that's not practical of course.

I find that wearing sunglasses outside protects me from BOTH sun AND cold winds.

I also find that YES! drinking caffeinated coffee (with added sweetener-as-humectant), sometimes with ibuprofen/or/aspirin, helps to prevent headaches/inflammations caused by computer fluoresence, radiowaves, and cold windy days.
It helps to drink coffee before & after computer use & radio use.

Coffee actually makes my eyes feel LESS dehydrated and LESS inflamed.

No, I don't get jitters preventing sleep.
        It HELPs me sleep.
I used to NOT sleep, due to headaches from LACK of coffee.

No, I don't get withdrawal symptoms either.

For decades I'd been avoiding coffee due to such warnings, as well as warnings about tooth loss & so forth.
I'd probably be alot healthier now, had I ignored the medical hype.
I'm NOT saying it cured me, but it definitely is a lifesaver now.

Finally, after subjection to EMFS such as computers, taking hot baths, alternating with applying cold washcloth, or cold running water, on some inflamed body areas (amid the hot bath) helps me, as well as warm-wet washcloth applied to closed eyelids during bath.
On Coast to Coast, a guest once spoke of "flashing" - i.e. alternating between hot/cold showers.

I have this pipedream of an inflatable, insulated vest which you can fill with cold water, and which steadily emits cool jets of water into your back from holes within it while you're wearing it. Ditto for back of neck.
        Fantasies... fantasies...
Yes, I know about sauna's and ring-around-tubs. Expensive, and wouldn't cut it for me, because I like to lean back in tub without there being a pipe all around it.
