  • 3 steps to cure dry eyes?

Hey guys, what do you think about this story: http://www.cure-dryeyes.com/

In 3 steps get rid of dry eyes:

    1) healthy diet + detox
    2) Well balanced hormones
    3) Maintain healthy Estrogen level

Has somebody tried some of that especially nr. 2 or 3. I mean in young ages there shouldn´t be any issue with hormones? Did somebody experience something similar?

I have read this before. I do believe step #1, however maybe not the other two for me. I'm only 25, should I have hormonal issues yet? Does age matter when it comes to this? I have read one member getting worse when trying maca so I think it may have some effect? Seems like the guy who wrote the article knows what we are going through.

Hi, yes the guy who wrote this does really know what you're going through. That guy is me

It's completely fair to say that dry eyes is a multi-causal and multi-faceted problem. Indeed you can get DES through contact lens wear, lasik surgery just to name a couple.

However, the link between hormone imbalance and dry eye syndrome has been made and proven many times over the years. I agree that a person of 25 should not be bothered by hormone troubles, be it estrogen overload or some other hormonal deficiency, though it does happen - and it happens more often that you might think. If I had a dollar for every email I have received that said "The results of my hormone panel showed low (and very low) testosterone" I'd be quite wealthy !! Many of these stories were from young men and women in their twenties and thirties.

A well respected OD who has contributed numerous times to these forums wrote that almost all DES patients he comes across are nutritionally compromised in some way.

When one is nutritionally compromised there is a very high chance that a hormone imbalance is also apparent, be it subtle or not so subtle.

At the end of the day the best course of action is to rule it in or out in for your situation and move forward from there.

      Best.

Thanks for the reply! So... Should I go ahead and try Maca powder? Also.. In your opinion, are fruit sugars bad for dry eye?! Is your dry eye gone now, and the whites back? My eyes aren't to red but they used to sparkle, now the look dull.

This is my question too. I am 24 years old and feel overall healthy except of my eyes. So I´m wondering how could I have a hormone instability? Are there any tests to do? Or should I just try the Maca powder?...

My dry eye problem is some mixture of MGD and Blepharitis (Doctors aren´t really sure what exactly -.-)...

Faith, by all means try the Maca. Start with small amounts and see how you go. If you have any doubts, please see advice from a naturopath or other specialist. However, Maca is not a drug of any kind, merely a food supplement.

For the most part yes, my dry eye is resolved. However, with overuse of computer and screen I still get mild irritation and some inflammation consistent with all that screen time :-)

Don't be too concerned about fruit sugars/fructose, unless you think you may be fructose intolerant. It's more the refined sugars that aren't your friend.

Bojan, while it's unlikely, as I mention, it may be worthwhile to get a hormone panel done if your doctor will agree to do it. This clip by OD, Dr Boxer Wachler may help convince a doctor that the testing is valid.

Jads, with what do you mix the powder? I bought some powder, but the taste was not something I liked.

Jads, How do I know if my testosterone is not balanced? How can my Doctor check for that? Can I buy testosterone pills or anything to balance it without going for a drastic diet?

I agree, the taste is a little bit tart. You can mix it with juice, a smoothie, any kind of cold drink. Avoid sodas obviously. I find smoothies/ protein shakes the best.

Vinnie, there's a short and long answer to that question. Let me get back to you when I have just a bit more time.

                    Jads

How king did it take you (doing the natural route) to relieve your symptoms? Did the redness improve over time?

I just ordered Maca powder and DIM Plus, without testing my on instable hormones. I will give the products a try and hopefully see results. How much of each should I tak every day and for how long Jamie?

My husband (who does not have dry eye) had his testosterone tested many years ago because of his energy level, and it was low. The test was cheap, and was a simple blood test at the local hospital clinic. The testosterone cream he had to get and use was not as cheap. And he felt unusually angry when he used it, so between the price and the mood he eventually stopped. The same thing happened when he used Maca, but Maca also made him extremely jittery and nervous, and unable to sleep. The effects of Maca are similar to caffine and other stimulants. So people with chronic fatigue take it.

DHEA also increases testosterone. And I think it was pretty cheap. I believe cream form is much more potent than pills, but I don't remember.

                          What is DHEA?

DHEA is one of the steroid hormones synthesized from cholesterol. In fact, cholesterol is the precursor substance that all our hormones are derived from.

DHEA is sometimes called the youth hormone. It declines as we age. Healthy levels of DHEA help maintain healthy levels of downstream hormones such as testosterone and estrogen.

Remember that DHEA is just one stop along the metabolic pathway — it doesn’t work in a vacuum. How it gets converted comes down to your individual biochemistry — some women may use it to make more estrogen, others may make more testosterone. -

bojan/faith, it can take 6 weeks often longer. Everyone's physiology is a bit different and it also depends on the severity of your specific case.

My best advice is try not to skip a step. Taking the supplements while eating poorly is not a true recipe for success. In many way it's like pouring a barrel of water on a forest fire. It may seem like a harder road to travel but you have to try to eat fresh and unprocessed 80% of the week or more.
