Currently undergoing IPL treatment for redness (and dry eye)
Good luck, Gretchen, and it does make more sense for you to go to someone who has been doing "this" for 8 years. I'm glad you are able to do so.
Memphis is much closer to me too, but I don't think this would help me because of Sjogrens along with the earlier Lasik-zap and another medically necessary eye operation. Lucy
Don't trust any refractive surgeon with YOUR eyes.
Anyway, Dr Kerry Assil (disclaimer here - he is a huge Lasik guy but so is Toyos) will be doing the procedures in LA from here on out. I have chosen to go to Memphis however to continue my course with Dr Toyos. Call me crazy but I would rather have someone zap my eyelids who has been doing it for 8 years as opposed to someone who has picked it up in the last 2 weeks. Although I am sure that Dr Assil is more than competent, that has just been my choice.
HTH.

Hi
I just got back from my first treatment with Dr. Assil (Dr. Toyos recommended I see him since I live in San Diego). I am satisfied with my visit except that they charged me $500 for the first visit. He did the treatment and also explained what he was doing very well. I found it easier to go to Dr. Assil than to Dr. Toyos. I will post a more detailed thread later regarding my treatment. But for now... I am happy since this morning I woke up for the first time in 3 years without having my eyelids stuck to my eyes! I hope it keeps getting better. My eyes are still feeling better than normal 24 hrs after the treatment.

Hi Pati,
Is this the same Dr. Assil as in www.assileye.com? I don't see IPL listed as a treatment, but I am in LA and I'm interested in trying it. Thanks!
Can someone ask Dr. Toyos the location of the physicians he is training to perform IPL. I would love to try it but it's difficult to get to Memphis especially with at least 4 treatments needed. Thanks.
Kerry Assil told me in St. Louis at the Anheuser-Busch Eye Institute back in the early 90's that I was the only refractive surgery patient he had seen with severe dry eyes.
i'm doing ipl with toyos in memphis, had 2 sessions, so far they are a lot more comfortable, hope it continues to get better, not getting hopes up, but it would be great if the next 2 sessions improve as much as first 2.
before this i tried everything, restais, compresses, doxy, plugs, etc.....
this is the only thing ive tried that has brought any relief, but it is also early in my endeavour.....i'll keep everyone posted.....

Did/ do you have eye redness from the dry eye as well? If so did the IPL help with that aswell?
just got thru with third ipl treatment...my glands are now all open, from 100 percent closed, more comfy, and the photophobia has abated......i'm pleased.....i used dr. toyos in memphis, tn
Hi, just had my first treatment with Dr. Toyos last week, and he says that the dry eye is like a "bucket" and that many factors contribute, and at some point the bucket overfills and causes definite dry eye. For me it was the lasik I had, and it's been miserable since! I too was on accutane about 20 years ago, and know that was a major factor for my dry eyes...
Dr. Toyos will do 2-6 treatments as needed, then recommends follow-ups within the year, yearly to keep the tear ducts cleaned out and working properly.
Oops, i forgot...after the IPL treatment, he used a stick with a qtip end on it to compress the ducts and remove the once dried, now liquified matter from my glands....
