IPL with Dr Toyos

kinda makes me sad watching that that i didn't get more success.. I definitely think it got some glands flowing more oil, but symptom wise wasn't massive.. i think after maybe 9 i would have... but then how much money do i spend getting there, even when dr toyos etc said 90% are open so probably wouldn't let me do that many treatments. After he he did the IPL, the expression, when it was hard, i had tons of oil coming out on my eye for ages.. But after the second time they didn't express them hard which was a shame because i think they didn't get the thick oil out.. although they said it was coming out.

My face felt much smoother and less dry after treatments, but my face is still dry.. so maybe i needed more. My skin didn't really do much, maybe more intensity would have helped.

Another poster said this earlier, but sometimes the worse thing to do is nothing. I guess you have to calculate the risk. I don't know anything about the probing, but IPL is much less invasive. It does hurt alot, but it's hard for me to see where the possibility for damage is. Sebum glands are the same on your eyelid as your face, and IPL has been used safely to treat poorly functioning glands for years from what I understand. The reason you need to see a knowledgeable doctor is because of the risk for scarring of the skin or damage to the eyes if the device is not proper used.

I wonder if this IPL treatment and Dr. ******'s gland probing are more effective than the plain gland expression my eye doctor does using a medical Q-Tip...

I decided to fly to Memphis to see D. Toyos for my fifth treatment. I was having too many problems with my left eye- I knew I needed his help. Anyway, the visit went well but he told me that basically I am halfway there (might have even regressed a bit from the last tmt)- 50 percent are open some of the oil is good- come is crystallized. Anyway, he turned up the machine and wow did it hurt- still, as long as it helps I dont care. So, I am schd to go down in another month. Halfway there....uggh...but better than not getting towards the end.....I will keep everyone posted. Autumnn

IPL = Intense Pulse Light.

It's a treatment to relieve rosacea, veins, fine wrinkles etc.

Not to sound weird but I put in another post what is this ipl? Im assuming its a light procedure that helps mgs but I searched it and could not find out any info. Can Anyone shoot me a link or explain it to me? If its what I understand its for blod vessels in the eye lids? where are the drs that do it? Thanks not trying to hijjack.

Dr Toyos is training and certifying doctors in other parts of the country. His first certification will be for doctors in the Atlanta area. He mentioned that New york might be next. I still wouldn't try any doctor until he has been doing it a substantial amount of time since the IPL goes so close to the eye.

If Dr. Toyos is correct and IPL is a long-lasting effective treatment for MGD, then it is really important that other docs out there in various geographic areas be found that are willing to do the procedure.

So, I don't consider it a thread hijacking. Especially because I'm frustrated to have to be making the drive 12 hours to Memphis in a month for treatment when I live next to the #2 ranked eye center in the world.

We all have to share information. It would be great if more doctors in more cities would do procedures that actually try to get t the root of the problem rather that just helping the symptoms. Dr Toyos gets right on the lower lid and also the cheek and outer eye and temple area. Also having the correct setting setting of the IPL is important. Dry eye sufferers in NYC should definitely find out more information about Dr Coad's technique to see if it would help them.

Taryn, I watched that video again and noticed what you pointed out. He says he does the lower lids, but watching it it looks like the ipl only goes as high as the top of the cheekbone. Don't know how that would affect the meibomian glands much.

I want to say I was not promoting Dr. Coad, more that I was pointing out to Jen the possibilities of locating on the internet someone who does ipl for dry eye close enough to her. A lot of research about the doctor's technique would need to be done as this is fairly new to use ipl this way, I think.

I am a patient of Dr Toyos and have never seen Dr Coad. From Dr Coad's video, one difference I notice is that he doesn't take the IPL as far out into the temple area as Dr Toyos. At my last appointment with Dr Toyos, he says that if he doesn't get the telangiectasias out in that area too, there is a greater chance that the inflammation will return.

It sounds like ipl is becoming more and more accepted as a treatment for dry eye. Jen, this doctor is in New York, probably not close enough to you to go to but more and more doctors are doing this. I found this video by googling "where ipl dry eyes?".
