Hi,
I'm just new to dryeyezone and wasn't sure which forum to post on. I'm just looking for anyone with a similar experience to me and anyone who can offer some comfort of advice, please, I'm really scared.
I've been to an optician and an eye clinic who've both told me that i've got really really dry eyes, they've given me several types of eye drops but they don't help and my eyes are getting worse by the day. I've also tried warm compresses and eye massage. they give some relief, but only for 5 or 10 minutes! This condition has seemed to appear overnight, about 2 weeks ago, and its getting to the point where its stopping me doing my job properly and going out to see friends. I just feel the need to keep my eyes scrunched tightly closed all the time. I work in a bar and the other day i had to serve customers with a hand over one eye, alternating, cos i just couldn't bear to keep them open. I've had to leave gatherings with friends as I've been in so much discomfort that it wasn't worth staying, I cant't look at people or interact properly. It is not constant, often I wake up feeling ok, but after a few hours it will begin and not go away until i sleep again.
The only connections that I can make are:
a, I have been taking 150g of lamotragine daily for months and dry eye started around about when i raised it to 200g. But dry eye is not one of the side effects and it seems odd that just a 50g difference would bring it on.
b, I used to swim regularly, but i had an operation and had to stop for 6 weeks. The dry eye started also about when i swam again. But I've stopped swimming and its still here. I thought perhaps I could've picked up and infection from the pool, but the optician says there is no sign, has anyone experienced an undetected infection?
3, I have read online that it may have some connection to Interstitial Cystitis. I do not have this but I have had sexual cystitis. But it began months before this and I've not had it for a few weeks weeks so it doesn't coincide.
Sorry, huge long post! i hope this is the correct forum! perhaps I should cut each question down into smaller posts? not sure, I'm new to this.
One last thing, i'e heard that dry eye is really uncommon for my age group? and is it normal to have an overnight start like this, or is it gradual?
Thankyou so much for taking the time to read, and for any help!!
Katy
