  • New to fourms, new to dry eyes

    Hi there!

So nice to have a place to talk to others going through the same problems. I am 24 years old, and just started to have extreme dry eye symptoms. About 1.5 years ago, my contacts started feeling a bit odd in my eyes, but never did I have the extreme pain I've been having lately. About 4 months ago I completely stopped wearing contacts, which has been really hard for me. I do not enjoy glasses at all. The problem is, I still have the same pain with the glasses. I have a 9-5 job, which requires a lot of computer work. I put in drops about every 10-15 minutes. I've tried EVERY drop they make. I have tried the heat pads, and can't decide if they help or hurt. I ordered the fish oil pills, as well as an eye mask to sleep at night. I have an appt for a specialist on Monday to see what can be done, as my home therapies aren't working. My wedding is in 6 months, and I'm hoping for some type of relief so I can go back to wearing my contacts by my wedding. It's almost too upsetting to read some of these posts and how it never goes away for some. Once every 1-2 weeks, I get such extreme pain in the back of my eyes that gives me a migraine of sorts and the only cure is sleeping because the headache and the "tiredness" of my eyes. I am hoping my eyes are just inflamed or something that can be treated, and then some type of drops can help with the dryness.

If computers make it worse, then I guess so does TV, cell phones, books, really ANYTHING. There's no way to avoid all these things.

I'm just hoping for some relief of the headaches, and the ability to wear contacts again, even if not every day, but a few days a week (not to work of course at the computer).

Right now I'm using similasan eye drops often, an eye wash in the shower, heat pads, and a gel drop at night. Is the eye scrub something that helps anyone?

I got a new prescription for my glasses, which has helped with the amount of the headaches (made it go from 2 a week to 1 a week) but wasn't the cause of the problem like I had hopped it would be.

Lastly, I am on ortho tri cyclen birth control. I switched from ortho lo about 2 months ago, and still no change in the dry eyes. I now went back to get a completely different birth control, with new hormones, hoping that maybe the hormones in birth control has been contributing to my eyes. Has anyone had this happen? Has switching helped anyone? Thank you so much for ANY HELP!!

    Follow up

One last thing I wanted to add...I don't have any problems with my eye lashes or any problems with make up or redness on the eyes or problems such as that. My eyes are fine when I wake up, and if there is anything on my eye lids its from the gel drops I put on the night before. I'm guessing my case isn't as bad, as I don't have some of these symptoms others have.
