Hi Everyone,
I have been suffering from painful, dry, itchy, burning, red eyes for about 3 years now. My Optometrist told me it was just a mild eye infection caused from sinus issues. Nothing serious. He gave me prescription eye drops each time I went to help with the infection and suggested I start taking Flaxseed and Omega-3, etc. Back in the middle of May I thought something had flown into my eye. All of a sudden my whole right eye socket got sore like I had been punched, started watering, got swollen and red. I went to Urgent Care and they told me they could tell something had scratched my eye, but that it was gone and they gave me Amoxicyllin for any infection and sulfer drops (OUCH!). The drops made it worse. After two weeks I went to see my eye doctor and after 3 visits to him, treating me for a mild eye infection again I developed a Stye that wouldn't go away. He recommended I see a specialist.
When I saw the specialist he told me I had Blepharitis & Chalazion Stye and had probably been suffering from Blepharitis for about 5 years. Said was fairly common, not very serious, but was chronic. He prescribed Doxycycline for 30 days and some eye gel for 3 weeks. Well the gel made my eyes worse, was very painful, but after the 30 days the Stye was for the most part gone, so I didn't need surgery to remove. On my follow up visit to the doctor he said eyes looked better, no longer swollen, but since still dry and burning and itching he prescribed Tobrex gel for 3 weeks. Said that should take care of the burning and itching. Also told me my eye hygiene for the rest of my life to control this condition was warm compresses (if needed for short term relief), Systane drops 4 times a day and wash my eyelashes with drop of baby shampoo every morning. I'm now done with my 2nd week of the Tobrex with no improvement. Eyelids hurt (afraid of styes), eyes burn, itch, hurt. Plus we are going through a rough season with Ragwood being very high and I'm afraid maybe that is affecting my eyes, so afraid to go outside and enjoy the nice weather we are having finally.
Within the last 6 months to a year I have also been diagnosed with Rosceacia, Sclerederma, Fibromyalgia, Peridontal disease and I have been suffering from Orthostatic Tremors (another chronic disease like all my other ones, but one which is very rare and doctors don't know how to treat). I have to think possibly some of these are related to my Blepharitis.
I haven't worn eye makeup now since May. Tried a little eye shadow, thinking how could that hurt since not really touching eyes or eyelashes, but I guess it flaked into eyes and boy did that burn. The doctor said he would suggest no eye makeup, but if I definitely needed for special occasions, just be prepared to have eye irritation the next day. My eyes don't necessarily look really red to an outsider, or so I'm told, but I can see the redness (guess I'm looking for it). Any suggestions on remedies and any suggestions on mascara that won't irritate my eyes?? I don't want to sound vain, but I would like to be able to wear makeup again, at least once in awhile.
Didn't mean to complain and whine about all my ailments, I know things can always be worse, but wanted to lay everything on the table this first introduction.
Help!
Thanks,
Laura
