    Other

I use Alcon Poly Gel at night and if desperate in the day. Other drops I use are Theratears to rinse out in the morning (can't get saline here) and DEZ drops.

Im using a drop called natural tears. The only one i can manage cuz it's not that thick. The thick ones does more harm then good.

The data on Hyaluronic Acid (Sodium Hyaluronate) looks very good, very consistently, so that's been my "drug of choice" for a while now.

In Europe, I bought a bottle of the Hylo-comod with Hyaluronic Acid.

At home, the only thing I've been using is custom compounded (Leiter's Rx) Hyaluronic Acid in a 0.5% concentration (Most of the over-the-counter drops have a concentration of about 0.15 to 0.18%).

Leiter's couldn't brew it any stronger and still have it work with an eyedropper. This was the best I could get out of them. It's preservative free (ya' think?) and must be kept in the fridge.

Because of a previously posted concern about the phosphate buffer (used to achieve the proper Ph) having a potential to cause corneal opacification if used heavily ... I only use them morning and night.

Bad thing: it costs $127/bottle, PLUS shipping.

Otherwise, a nap seems to work as well as anything else

I have no idea whether it's doing anything or not, but they do feel pretty good!

I'd like to report that as many others have posted here, Systane (even the PF version) was THE most irritating drop I've ever used. I didn't have much luck with the Refresh products either, but at least they didn't worsen my symptoms.

Dissappointing have also been TheraTears, Soothe (after all) and Refresh Endura. I love researching the concept behind each drop, but I'm very dissappointed when they fail to keep the promise

The humble Genteal line (no treatment-XL duration promises there) and Dr. Holly's drops are the only ones that I can personally tolerate.

New dry eye product: Optive Lubricant Eyedrop

I found a new eyedrop at a Rite Aid down the street called Optive. I have used it for 3 weeks and it has made a big difference with my dry eye problem. It seems to be gentle as it does not sting like Systane or Genteal and gives me much longer relief which means less drops each day. I am getting long lasting results without any blurring which I love.

The blue box with bubbles mentions something about working at two levels (team film and cellular level) vs. other eyedrops.

I also have seen it at my other local stores (food and discount stores).

                        Hope this information helps others.

                          Martin:

If you have the box handy, would you mind sharing some more information? Specifically, I'm wondering what the active ingredients are. Also, what type of preservative does it use?

If you don't mind my asking, what underlying type of dry eye concern did you have that this drop has improved? I'm asking because I have MGD and am always looking for new possible treatments.

                          Thank you.

If Martin doesn't post again I'm gonna go out and buy some of this stuff (while I'm at Rite Aid buying Unisol... thanks for the tip Kitty!!) just to see the label for myself. Well maybe I will anyway.

When this first came on the market I couldn't get ANY information.

Allergan's patient information is extremely thin and has no labelling details. I've emailed them to ask for more...

Drugstore.com says 0.5% Carbomethylcellulose (e.g. Refresh) and an unspecified quantity of glycerin, and has "Purite" with a question mark.

AmericaRx have it jumbled up with Refresh and list ingredients as polyvinyl alcohol and povidone in unpreserved unit dose (this, below a 15mL bottle that is obviously not a unit dose). Geez.

By the way, if anybody wants to look up active ingredients or preservatives of any drops, as well as typical pricing, we keep a listing at this link.

Fyi, Allergan confirmed the following for Optive:

                              Active ingredients:
                              0.5% carboxymethylcellulose sodium
                              0.9% glycerin

                              Preservative:
                              Purite
